#MothsMatter @savebutterflies Could you kindly tell me the name of this Moth species, please? It was flying around my kitchen last week. I think it is a beauty. #nature #naturephotography

Spotted this hummingbird hawk-moth the other day in north #Norfolk. Amazing flying skills of this little insect. Wings beat so fast the camera couldn't see them. #MothsMatter #mothtodon #moths

Seasonal moths
November Moth (aggregate, could be one of three closely related species distinguishable only if raised from larvae, or through genetical dissection),
December Moth, lovely furry species that finally turned up in my garden in October 2022
Winter Moth, delicate looking but hardy winter-flying moth

This year, I saw well over 60 species of moth I'd not seen before, among them the wonderful creatures we know as Convolvulus Hawk-moth, December Moth, Rosy Footman, and Black Arches #TeamMoth #MothsMatter
The full list of the moths I've recorded and photographed in the last 4 years is on my Imaging Storm site

Mrs Sciencebase will attest to how excited I got when a couple of Convolvulus #Hawk-moths (Agrius convolvuli) turned up in our garden at the end of the summer.
They were initially drawn to tobacco plants (#Nicotiana) that we had grown specifically to attract them. I think we had them arrive on three occasions with at least two on one night. Likelihood is that they are the offspring of migrants from mainland Europe

Good to see @savebutterflies have arrived here to share information about and preserve our beautiful butterfly and moth friends!
In the depths of winter, there are few moths on the wing sadly...it was dry and not too cold last night, so I lit up (15W actinic). Unfortunately, nothing was drawn in.
So, instead here's a Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) photo I took in the summer while searching for Clouded Yellow butterflies.
Not to be confused with the US hummingbird moths, which are more closely related to the UK's Bee Hawk-moths.
Discovered the #MothsMatter hashtag & am so excited to finally have a place to share the coolest #moth I've ever seen.
Last year walked outside & was stunned to see this huge moth on the pergola.
Fairly certain it's a Black Witch Moth (Ascalapha odorata)...?
The size, tho! It was absolutely jaw-dropping.
Just had to share, lol.
