A common refrain heard from opponents of cycling infrastructure is that "not everyone can cycle", which is, of course, undisputedly true.

It is also true that only 56.5% of Irish people hold a full driving licence, yet we design our transport infrastructure as if everyone can use a car.

2022 has been a very bad year for deaths and injuries of people walking on Irish roads. Cars are bigger, faster, more numerous and more powerful than ever before and the safety of people inside the vehicle has been prioritised at the expense of people outside the car.

The reduction of car-dependency is essential both for climate action and for road safety. We can't afford to pander to the motor industry any longer.

During that sample period 48 persons used this space for access or egress to or from the street at that spot. This included delivery persons with hand carts, people with buggies, others with suitcases and so on. Dumping #Carbage is for the convenience of the driver and inconveneinene or everyone else. Even if only for #JustAMinute it is not victimless #Motordom prevails. I am happy to call it out when I can.
