Today is the 43rd anniversary of the #MountSaintHelens eruption on May 17, 1980.
This eruption was both geologically fascinating and also monumentally deadly, killing 57 people.
I wanted to share one of my favorite sets of photos from the eruption, which really conveys the stunning reality of what had just happened.

A little more than 42 years after the explosive eruption of Mount Saint Helens, I saw the area with my own eyes for the first time in September 2022.
I titled this photo "Volcanic Rebirth" and it is one of my favorites from 2022 — perhaps the most favorite of them all, because the place left an enormous impression on me.

In this case, I have flown and photographed this scene probably a hundred times over the last decade, but I never saw the Toutle River lit up like a silver path to St. Helens.
