We have two pieces of good news from the San Gabriel Mountains in #SoCal.

A 75-year-old hiker has been rescued from the Mount Baldy area after spending
several days in the snow with an injured leg.

The main Mount Wilson trail is open again through the work of volunteers who
built a temporary bridge across a section that washed out in the recent rains.

Retreat from the Poubelle Rouge

Yesterday we went to San Jacinto Peak, which is the highest point in the San Jacinto Mountains of #SoCal. My daughter soldiered on despite what may have been some mild frostnip. Picture taken by her boyfriend. We did a loop from Idyllwild, which made for a long day in snow, of which there was more than I expected from satellite images. Routefinding got a little difficult as we neared the summit in heavy snow and low visibility, but we figured it out.

I went up to the San Gorgonio Mountain area yesterday and had a beautiful day of snow travel with the mountain completely to myself. Only one fairly small storm so far this year, but it was enough to make the mountain a winter wonderland. Many flavors of ice, powder, and consolidated snow.
I love #socal! There aren't a lot of places in the world where you can be at 3400 m elevation at noon and be getting coffee at Starbucks before the sun sets.

Lucy didn't get to go to Mount Baldy yesterday, but the conditions were really nice for microspikes or crampons. Alpine zone at 10 am, poolside by early afternoon.
