@Quilty Right? There are other scandi words I wish we had too like #gökotta or #friluftsliv. And I have yet to find another language that has an equivalent of the Sanskrit word #Mudita. One word can have a lot of influence.

The fact is that there is only one of you and many, many more people who are not you. So if you are unhappy when something good happens for other people, thinking that it's some kind of competition that you lost, then you are going to be unhappy most of the time. Whereas if you are happy for the success of others when something good happens for them, then you are going to be happy a lot more of the time. Who doesn't want to be happy more often?

So #Mudita is really in our own self-interest. 😘

I have only been on Mastodon for a short time, but I have already enjoyed it better than any other social media.
I feel like “mudita” (delighting in other people's well-being) is more natural here.

@theonlysimonandorgarfunkel @Mrfunkedude @shaktinah flipside? When we appreciate other people's joy (#muditā, or #CompassionateJoy in #Pali) we ourselves become happier if only for a moment! And those moments add up to make us happier people. That is why it is considered a wise practice to consciously embrace. Forgive me if I'm preaching to the choir here.
