First day of photography for 2023, and I'm back at Manchester for one final session with the statuettes from the Middle Kingdom tomb of the two brothers before they go back into the galleries in time for the museum's grand reopening next month.

That first day back after new year is always going to be one for catching up with stuff, but I did manage to fit in putting the raw images of this amulet through the focus stacking software 😊

It's one of the amulets I photographed at Manchester Museum in early December for Tiny Egypt and depicts the god Shu - the air - with his arms up to support the sky.

I spent nearly two-and-a-half hours this afternoon removing the background from this photo of a Middle Kingdom model boat. It's quite a fiddly outline to work with, but it's well worth the time.

I *love* Egyptian tomb models - they're so characterful, a wonderful glimpse into life in ancient Egypt, and such fun to photograph 😊
