MusicPod is a New Music, Podcast, and Radio Player for Ubuntu
A new all-in-one music, radio and podcast player is in development for Ubuntu, called MusicPod. Though MusicPod not an “official” Ubuntu app it is being developed under the umbrella of the Ubuntu Flutter Community, who also maintain that Fluter-based software app we previewed last summer which Ubuntu may use in a future release. The app is built in Flutter and uses Flutter’s “Yaru” design elements to effect a look that’s similar to the GTK theme of the same name but, y’know, without being an actual GTK app. So what can it do? MusicPod Fluter App MusicPod can play local audio :sys_more_orange:

‘Cider’ is an Open Source Apple Music Client for Linux Desktops
If you’re an Apple Music subscriber wanting to use the service on Linux, you have to check out Cider. Cider (inspired name, eh?) is an “open-source, community-oriented Apple Music client” for Windows, macOS (not that they need it), and Linux. It is Electron-based but the developers behind it say it was written ‘from scratch with performance in mind’. As well as letting you browse songs, artists, and albums in the Apple Music catalog the app also gives you access to Apple Podcasts too. Obviously Cider is 100% unofficial and not Apple-endorsed. But the feature set is solid, and the UI :sys_more_orange:

Tidal-HiFi is the Best App for Streaming Tidal Music on Linux
Let me preface this post by stating, somewhat cheekily, that I would rather not use Electron apps where possible. But, in the face of no alternative I can suck it up and make use of ’em 😉. And so it is with Tidal-hifi, an Electron-based (I know, I know) app that is, to my knowledge, the easiest way to stream music from TIDAL on Linux in the service’s Hi-Fi quality (hence the hi-fi name – and TIDAL? That’s the last time I’m capitalising you). Now, ‘easiest’ is an important qualifier in the sentence you just read as there are other :sys_more_orange:

Amberol GTK Music App Gains New Features, Reduces Memory Usage
I’m a big fan of Emmanuele Bassi’s Amberol music player and the latest version, released this weekend adds a couple of pretty big new features. Before I get to those, I will point out that this GTK-based music music player has been updated numerous times since I spotlighted it back in April. UI improvements, including relocating the playlist to the left-hand side of the window, have been implemented; there’s now an option to disable UI recolouring; and comprehensive MPRIS support. Amberol 0.8 is the latest release and it lets you search for songs in the playlist/queue. You don’t need to :sys_more_orange:

Amberol is Fab No-Frills Audio Player for GNOME Desktops
Looking for a simple, focused, no-frills music player that fits in beautifully on the modern GNOME desktop? Check out Amberol. “Amberol aspires to be as small, unintrusive, and simple as possible. It does not manage your music collection; it does not let you manage playlists, smart or otherwise; it does not let you edit the metadata for your songs; it does not show you lyrics for your songs, or the Wikipedia page for your bands,” states Amberol’s Gitlab page. That’s to say all this audio player does is play music and …Well, that’s pretty much it! You do get a :sys_more_orange:

Rhythmbox’s Much-Needed Makeover Might Not Be Happening…
Ahh, Rhythmbox: a solid, dependable music player for the Linux desktop which, like a classic Madonna album, is both great and of its era at the same time. But —sticking with the Madonna analogy for :sys_more_orange:
