“ The Helmet of the Gods ”
On Thursdays after work I sometimes accompany my husband to medieval (SCA) fight practice. It takes place in the parking lot of a BART (train) station in Oakland, California. Last night he asked for help fitting his gloves into his gauntlets. I told him that he had to pose for me in exchange. I only had a few seconds before he went back to fighting.
This helmet was made by a friend who is a professional armorer. My husband does indeed call it "The Helmet of the Gods". I think this crop and the lighting makes it a bit creepy.

I painted this little hawk-scribe marginalia tonight for a #MySCA award scroll that's going out soon, and I'm just so pleased/giggly with it I have to share.
It's kind of a self-insert; my SCA name is Regalis and the hawk is a ferruginous hawk, aka Buteo regalis, and I'm a scribe! 😅

Twelfth Night marks the beginning of Carnival season, which ends with Carnival (or Mardi Gras) itself. This event is a recreation of the more secular Twelfth Night traditions of the Middle Ages - games, music, dancing, feasting, and other entertainment.

A recent laser engraving commission I took on was this SCA award medallion (see https://www.sca.org/awards/east.html#:~:text=Tyger%20of%20the%20East for a description of the award). The two medallions pictured made the final cut.
