A Bristolean retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice ends its run tonight at the Bristol Old Vic. The performance involves a cast of 140 people from community groups and includes 7 year olds all the way up to an 87 year old. In fact, there are three generations acting in the same play!

Horus wasn't crucified, resurrected, or baptized, he didn't have 12 disciples, and Isis was most definitely not a virgin.
The myths surrounding Jesus borrow thematically from earlier stuff, but there are no one-to-one comparisons.

Maybe it’s because our world is so violent, so tragic with hate and destruction. But I don’t know. Has it ever not been this way? Yet something in my chest points longingly down a misty, forested road and says urgently “go there.” I read once from somewhere, can’t remember if it was #josephcampbell or #robertbly who called for a return to the “oak stage of religion.”

The ‘mazzamureddu’ is a house #spirit belonging to Sicilian #folklore. It’s the southern-Italian version of the most commonly known leprechaun (they also guard hidden pots of gold named ‘truvatura’).
His name translates to ‘wall-knocker’, given that he usually announces his arrival by knocking on walls and doors.

Today I came across a sketch I made a couple years ago, which reminded me of the Jólakötturinn (#yule cat), a #mythical creature from Icelandic #folklore.
According to the #Myth, the giant cat is known to roam the snowy wilderness, on the hunt for people who haven’t received new clothes for the holidays.
