Noticed the top of Rialto and 101 Collins lit up in red and orange for #NAIDOCWeek
Nice touch. #melbourne
It's #NAIDOCWeek !
At work we're keeping it fairly simple; sharing information about the history of NAIDOC and telling people how they can get involved.
As a music fan, I've found myself listening to more #FirstNations music as a way to connect with the traditional owners of the land.
Some of my picks:
'Nyaaringu' by Miiesha might be a few years old but is still a great album that I soaked up late last week - https://open.spotify.com/album/4FPYLkPm1ri9vaxdGAOMuR
And GLVES is a fantastic artist who has released a collection of well-produced singles over the last few years; she's going from strength to strength - https://open.spotify.com/artist/7wRaOhk0CnmQUzewX36M2u
And every now and then I'll skim through past episodes of Blak Out on #TripleJ to find new artists - hearing it in a radio show context adds an extra layer to the stories that First Nations cultures often include in their music - https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/blak-out

To all my First Nations friends I send you enduring love and strength during NAIDOC week and apologise for the months of silence and lack of support throughout the rest of the year.
I am thankful to be a resident on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation and recognise that this land has never been ceded which is an enduring crime of white colonisers. White colonisers like myself must do better.
There is a link in my recent essay that I would like to share with other white people. It is an interview by Angelita Biscotti with Muruwuri man and investigative journalist, Allan Clarke.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

Both #Hawkes and #Blues players looking on, with respect, ahead of the game.

One of my favourite moments from last night’s NAIDOC Ball: Aunty Violet telling me and Rebecca V to poke our tongues out at the camera

Tonight I got to see the incredibly hard-working Chrystale Langford honoured as ACT’s NAIDOC 2023 Elder of the Year.
I’ll be smiling all weekend at having been there to see that happen. She’s a brilliant, strong advocate for health and NDIS for First Nations people.

Due to the COVID pandemic, #NAIDOCWeek was postponed to November in 2020. It remained a time for reflection and celebration for #Indigenous #Australians. And I wrote a #blogpost about my ongoing journey of learning and understanding through #books. 📖
