So much of autistic and other neurodivergent activism is policy-focused.

Influencing policy is good work, sure, but it's not going to lead to liberation by itself. We can't expect to gain materially significant rights, freedom, acceptance, and security just by asking nicely--especially when the government and medical-industrial complex are so thoroughly infiltrated by eugenics organizations and the warrior parent movement. Those are things we need to struggle for as a community, pushing the anti-autistic hegemony into a corner until they have no choice but to concede.

For the neurodiversity movement to get mainstream success, we need to produce newsworthy events that materially impact the hegemony and those privileged by it. We need to organize and own our community and our movement, and educate newcomers while countering efforts to co-opt or water down our position. We need to work together in tactical unity both within the neurodiversity movement and with other intersectional movements, and we need spaces specifically for BIPOC, queer, women, Global South, multiply disabled, and poor neurodivergents, who have thus far been largely excluded. Our movement must be explicitly anti-capitalist, with an understanding of how capitalism harms neurodivergents. And we need to establish our own communities separate from the mainstream, as a viable alternative to assimilation, with our own cultures, power structures, mutual aid systems, and societies.

Hello, my name is Jack and my pronouns are He/They. I'm an astronomy student, activist, and storyteller from the upstate NY area, in my mid-20s. My first language is English, but I also read and write Spanish fairly well, and I know some ASL, too. I came over from the birdsite after Lex Luthor bought it, although I don't plan on deleting my account there.

My goal here is to work towards a free and fulfilling life for all beings, at home together in the universe. The hashtags below are the kinds of things I'll probably post about. Some of those things are identities of mine, some are political ideologies and some are interests or things I do. If those are the types of things you're also interested in, then you should follow me.
