Four years ago, the National Gallery of Victoria had a exhibition of the terracotta army from Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum.
(Left to Right, Top to Bottom. Quotes are from the on-site labels.)
Armoured General, Qin Dynasty 221-207 BCE
"This general, the largest of the terracotta warriors in the exhibition, has a distinguished beard and moustache and displays a stance of importance."
Unarmoured infantryman, Qin Dynasty 221-207 BCE
"We can clearly see that this figure has been reconstructed from many small broken parts. Of more than 2000 warriors unearthed to date, none have been discovered intact. It is speculated that shortly after their completion at the fall of the Qin dynasty, the victorious Han entered the terracotta warriors underground passages, smashed the contents and set the wooden passages on fire."
Kneeling Archer, Qin Dynasty 221-207 BCE
"This warrior is part of a battle formation of kneeling archers surrounding by standing archers that was discovered at the second-largest of the three terracotta army excavation pits."
Civil Official, Qin Dynasty 221-207 BCE
"In preparation for the afterlife, Emperor Qin Shihuang not only produced a terracotta army for his protection, but also ceramic administrators to look after government and civil affairs."

#Melbourne‘s famous #floralclock is just a #tram ride from the Central Business District, located in the #QueenVictoriaGardens.
It’s always adorned with flowering colour and is definitely a go-to for tourists and locals alike.
The location is perfect because it’s near #FlindersStreetStation, the #ArtsCentre and the #NGV and it’s nestled alongside our iconic #YarraRiver.
There’s always plenty of picture snappers that visit this vibrant and popular tourist attraction.
And what’s more, every picture taken is time stamped! 😁

Im alittle conflicted by this paint job.
I see it regularly and don’t know if I love it. Or just in ‘like’ 😁
This is #HanoverHouse’ and the #BETA
Their statement; “We are conscious consumers who seek meaning, yet the places where we shop are no longer fit for purpose. We want experiences rather than transactions, circularity instead of waste, the way forward not the past.
BETA is a revolutionary testing ground exploring the future of retail space, programming and new business models. Real-time experiments are happening through a series of events that test new forms of dining, wellness, fashion and design outside retail’s traditional brick and mortar limits. A humble seven storey concrete office block, which until the late 1990s claimed to be Southbank’s tallest building, has been transformed into a dynamic lab of progressive retail experiences that honour individuality, diversity and creative expression”.

I love their work though!
It is located within the heart of #Southbank #Australia around the corner from the #ArtCentre #NGV and #CrownCasino.

The #NGV - National Gallery of Victoria is one of the most visited places in Melbourne. It houses amazing artworks and displays international works when they’re ‘visiting’ our great State.
There’s also plenty of educational, creative and interactive activities and installations for kids. Different themes and regularly changed. All free.
The distinctive water windows out the front of the gallery brings back fond memories. Running my hands through this as a kid. I see children (and adults!!) doing that now too!
Make it a bee-line when you visit Melbs!
It really is worth it.

It is fantastic that the NGV is holding an exhibition of the entries in its recent architectural competition for a new Modern Gallery. Clearly, the selection is generating passionate debate. Why is it so hard to access any credible version of that debate? Strident click bait, defences and online polls are amusing, I guess (?) but where is the thoughtful, careful analysis and review? Where is the writing that shows us deeper ways to understand the proposals? To challenge them and us? #ngv #fox
