There are about a million extremely badass women with very complex motivations and characters whose choices are crucial to the plot.

The costumes are gorgeous, the acting is beautifully executed, the exposition is top-tier, and the depiction of chronic illness hit me square in the feels in ways I legitimately did not expect holy shit.

A deeply hopeful and also entirely nihilistic show that has absolute faith in the goodness of human nature and also an deeply held conviction that humanity is unrecyclable trash at its core, and somehow manages to make these views ... work in a compelling and complex narrative that has twists and turns that will make you laugh and cry and sing 🎶secret tunnel 🎶 in glee and then weep like a baby at the secret tunnel several episodes later.

Mei Changsu, our protagonist (played by Hu Ge), returns to the capitol city of ancient imperial China. Palace intrigue happens with utterly relentless skill.

It becomes increasingly clear that the past is not dead, everyone has feelings, and holy shit, cycles of revenge fuck everyone up in the end.

In a repeat of the experiment from Dec 2022, the NIF facility at Lawrence Livermore achieved a net energy gain in a fusion reaction.
2.05 MJ -> 3.5 MJ (was 3.15 MJ in 2022)
But, energy to power lasers = 300 MJ

The facility users UV lasers to to heat H isotypes (deuterium and tritium), causing fusion and energy release as neutrons.

However, it is still a long way from experiment to powering the grid.

NIF, the facility that just produced the first positive-gain fusion reaction, was completed in 2009 at a cost of about $4.2B. It costs about $300M/year to run. So total cost to date is about $8.1B. The experiment that produced the fusion reaction had a net gain of about 1.1MJ energy.

That works out to about $19.44B per kilowatthour.

They plan to reduce the cost per kWh before they go into production. 😂

Im übrigen ist dieses "Zündexperiment" keine Technologie für kommende #Fusion Reaktoren, weil überhaupt nicht kontinuierlich.

Es ist vielmehr Mikromodellierung von Nuklearexplosionen (und Hochenergie-Lasern).

Mit anderen Worten: Hier wird vor allem militärisch geforscht und Verträge gegen Kernwaffentests geschickt unterlaufen.

@WildWalker @rLok @katela Nirvana in Fire has a great cast all around, I pretty much liked everyone's portrayals, especially Hu Ge as our hero Mei Chang Su (love his acting as usual). Add to that a dramatic script. Did not recognize Jin Dong as Lin Chen, he looked so different in a costume drama, and now I can't see anyone else play that role. #NirvanaInFire #NIF #cdramas
