The heat dome will shift away from #NewOrleans this week. I'm looking forward to a little relief, but it also makes it easier for storms to come our way. Oh look Idalia just formed in the Gulf! We are now entering the height of hurricane season.

Disasters are inevitable. In the past, I found the service formerly known as Twitter to be an invaluable source of information during such times. Has the #NOLA community reached a critical mass for such information sharing on Mastodon yet?

Two things:
1. This is a really well designed and mostly well thought out piece on how Louisiana is facing climate change.
2. It’s immensely annoying to me that this gets framed as “New Orleans is facing a climate crises” - completely ignoring so many people who have been living with this crisis long before it was on the city’s doorstep.

Leadership may try to blame their protection of bad managers on workforce pressures, but the truth is that corruption is embedded in the culture. At this point, I find any other argument incredibly hard to believe.

Found a large snapping turtle in the road by Bayou St John. Multiple people stopped to help but we were w/out success until I remembered the 6 ft pole I keep in the car for bolt leverage when changing tires.

Got him across the street (in the direction he was going originally) and into the bayou with alacrity but much snapping, hissing, and general unhappiness in his part. Big thank you to all the helpers and the cop who sat and watched us with much amusement.
