There is now less sea-ice surrounding Antarctica than at any time since satellites records began in the late 1970s.

The #SeaIce dominoes continue to fall.
The #NSIDC's 5 day averaged #Antarctic extent hasn’t quite reached a record minimum yet:
https://GreatWhiteCon.info/2023/02/new-record-antarctic-sea-ice-minimum-extent/#Feb-11
However the daily value reached a record low minimum of 1.98 million km² yesterday.

We are still not receiving data from the DMSP #satellites F16, F17, and F18.
These three satellites carry the #SSMIS instrument that #OSISAF and #NSIDC use for their #SeaIce climate monitoring.
The issue is apparently related to power outage on the ground segment: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/messages/2023/01/MSG_20230110_1144.html
Expect delays and/or data gaps in some upcoming #SeaIce products.

We are not receiving data from US DMSP satellites F16, F17, and F18.
These three satellites and their SSMIS instruments are the base for the #OSISAF (and #NSIDC) sea ice extent monitoring. So expect data gaps and delays.
From what we understand, this is an issue in the ground segment, not with the satellites (it would be strange if all three had a glitch at the same time).
And I should post a link here to the awesome #QGreenland #QGIS package developed by Twila Moon and team at #NSIDC
Check it out, download and play with it from here: https://qgreenland.org/
