I have never imaging what a pita it would be, to extend my #NUC based #ESXi standalone with a new NVMe.
1.) Move all vms to external disk (this runs for days)
2.) Replace the old NVMe
3.) Move all vms back (will run for days)

@aral @snazzyq To my defense, when #Intel announced that they want to cancel the #NUC production I kindly asked them if they want to FLOSS the #UCFF form factor details further and offered to rename the project if they found the name infringing...

So far, my ticket [Case #:05916086] has yet to be replied to by Intel at all...

NOOOOoooo! Those Intel NUC machines were kick-ass brilliant. We ran hundreds of them for SPHERE project at #UniversityOfBristol, and we only had two USB ports fail over the whole five year period.

I would highly recommend snapping some up for general home use.

@thatguyoverthere @frameworkcomputer well, they do have some upgradeability and whilst they did release specs that make it possible to design drop-in preplacements, it's not some stardardized form factor unlike the #UCFF [#NUC] which the SFF-SIG standardized openly...

@pmdj that's quite steep - unless you're willing to pay premium for some smol system and don't just upcycle some broken Netbook or UMPC.

Unless you need it battery powered, you may be easier served with some #NUC or other x86-SBC board.

Personally, I think #UCFF aka "#NUC" is also a feasible form factor providing ample I/O space including 2x SoDIMM slots and 2x PCIe x4 NVMe-compatible M.2 slots...

I’m taking Maas.io as far as possible over the holiday. About 20 #RaspberryPi and 3 #NUC will in the pool.
