Ok, I need your help.
While moving a folder on one of my nvmes, I suddenly get a Input/Output error. I already checked SMART - the SSD is totally fine. Of course I have no current backup of this exact folder 🙄 .
FS is NTFS (Yeah Ik it is shit) and I already tried ntfsfix...
Any ideas?

Das hatte ich auch noch nicht. Laptop mit #NVME. Factory Windows 10 funktioniert, kein Secureboot o.Ä. Aber unter #Linux? NVME in lsblk nicht zu sehen. In lspci schon. Dmesg faselt was von Initialisierungsfehlern.
Die Lösung: Ein Firmware-Bug des Herstellers #WD #WesternDigital. Spricht man sie mit aktuellem NVME-Commandset an beginnt die #SSD zu kotzen. Lösung: älterer Kernel oder Firmware aktualisieren (there is a bootable version…). Andere Hersteller hatten wohl auch schon mal sowas.

@nyanotech @gsuberland @Raspberry_Pi I mean the #CM4 does support #NVMe and there are even boards from #WaveShare that basically breakout all the ports of a CM4 in the Foodprint of a #Pi4B - including #PCIe in the Form of an M.2 2280 M-Key slot [with a single lane]...
Still, out of cost reasons, USB-Boot would've been the most versatile option allowing anything from a cheap & slow USB 2.0 Thumbdrive [or even 3,5" FDD if supported for retro fans] up to a huge-ass array of HDDs and/or SSDs...

@nyanotech @gsuberland #NVMe is #PCIe which will require a whole PCIe toot complex, which is much more expensive and electrically demanding than SATA and espechally USB 2.0.
Personally, booting from USB is the most important feature for the @Raspberry_Pi #Pi3B+ & #Pi3A+ and up - including #CM3+ [lite] and #CM4 [S][lite]...

#ext4 #filesystem on #nvme drive was going really slow, despite periodic fstrim.
After fstrim, that took a while, it was fast again, but according to #archlinux wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Solid_state_drive/NVMe#Discards
"Warning: Although continuous TRIM is an option (albeit not recommended) for SSDs, NVMe devices should not be issued discards."
Maybe I should change the interval at which fstrim is ran.
Arch default is once a week.
That's clearly not often enough. #samsung 970 evo 1TB

@lcruggeri @juliank @Raspberry_Pi not to mention:
#RasbperryPi's since the #Pi3B / #Pi3A+ support #USB- and in the case of the #CM4 even #PCIe Booting including #NVMe & SATa-HBAs...
Thanks in part to @geerlingguy ...
