Happy Camp #NaNoWriMo dear #WritingCommunity! 🏕️

This July I'm editing what I hope will be the final draft before I start querying my first novel! It's so exciting. So close, I can almost smell the finished book 👃 📖

#AmWriting 700 words today. Not overly great, not bad. I feel like I hear Dory's voice in my head sometimes,

"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..."

Maybe roughly 47,500 more to go! Whew!

Ironically, what got me across the NaPoWriMo finish line was NOT sharing poetry here for the remainder of the month.🤣 In other words, writing poetry with the intent to share it was useful until it wasn't. A few weeks in, the poetry stopped flowing & I knew the solution was to write poetry just to write it, without any pressure whatsoever. I generally prefer to write like no one's going to read it, which just helps get the raw material onto the page. Revision comes later.

At #writing group tonight, trying to remember the #epiphany I had at the end of #NaNoWriMo last year about the shape of my novel. I put it aside to focus on polishing my #spaceopera for #querying. Now, a handful of queries have gone out into the void, the first #rejection has landed in my inbox, and it's time to switch projects.

Last November was so long ago.

I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month as extra incentive to complete a micropoetry collection. My word count goal is rather modest this time as other writing priorities take precedence but that’s the great thing about Camp NaNo; you can tailor it to meet your writing goals.

Today is April 1, the first day of April 2023 Camp for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). For my project this time rather than word count, I am planning to finish a short story I've started, and get it ready to submit to an anthology.

Right now, it is 12k words and has no ending. I'm shooting for 6k-7k total in the end, so lots of work to do!

Came home from an errand to find an unexpected box on my porch. I'd been in "label created" status for a week, but apparently, using the magic powers of #TheStoryEngine, my new set of cards "#TheDeckOfWorlds" arrived through some little-known time-space rift, bypassing all those pesky postal way stations. In hindsight, the fact that I started a new medication only a couple of weeks before #NaNoWriMo is the main reason I barely finished. That just makes me feel prouder of myself for getting it done, though, even though I don’t like what I wrote. #WritingCommunity #MentalHealth

@grammargirl in my #nanowrimo tale, a major plot point happens at the main's birthday party. Happened very naturally and it was fun! These guys eat and drink a lot together but the party brought in secondary characters and made them a part of their families by including them and their gifts. It also gave the main a way to discover some new stuff about himself and continue that in the future.

@Comey You learn a lot about yourself, too. Ex: I've learned I'm definitely a planner instead of a #pantser. In #NaNoWriMo, people often describe themselves as partners (writing by the seat of their pants), planners, or plantsers (somewhere in between). I think for me it's because of 1: my personality, and 2: what I like to write about. I like to try to make the scifi I write as close to reality as possible, so planning is very important for the type of story I like to write.

I had a great morning. Like one of those days when you are driving and all the lights turn green as you go. All the shops I went in were empty or almost empty. I got all the things on my to-do list done plus one for mom. The afternoon though has already taken a turn. In other news - my #nanowrimo shirt came and it is great! Maybe in the top 3 designs of my nano shirts.

November is National Novel Writing Month in which participants are challenged to write 50000 words of their story. I embraced the Rebel spirit and drew & published 34 cartoons with accompanying pep talks. Now that November is over, I wrote up some early thoughts and reflections:
