I found that I enjoy to draw their wings ~

oh and here is a #wip :)
I tried A LOT with different sketching techniques in #procreate and this one finally
- F I N A L L Y -
feels like I can do what I wanna do, without mayor frustration or not knowing which brush to use and whatnot, which is great :D

dare fight me?
(or give him a hug?)
the [#NanTegah] are the second tallest species in my world. this one might be about 2,5 meters (~8.2 feet). only [#TarNex] are above that with up to 3 meters (~9.8 feet).
I really should do a size diagram with all of them at some point..

@Ladee
they did not pay attention to their nature for too long. the constant pollution caused something to change in their environment and in the creatures of their world. and when they noticed the first consequences it was already too late.
I wrote about it a year ago: https://mastodon.art/@Kathaja/106151020412874796
so, the [#NanTegah] still look down onto their home world, but it's become a dark & eerie place, more monstrous & dangerous than the colorful planet it has once been.
some [#Nantegah] in their pressure suits. they need them whenever they want to go outside, standing on the sheltered platforms of the cities in the sky, looking down into the abyss which they once called home.
and a RL update: I'm in the Dominican Republic for the next two weeks :) we arrived yesterday and I'm already in love with the wildlife here. it's so different to Austria and so very beautiful!

I've never finished this #sketch on paper, so I "finished" it digitally. only the head is shaded with pencil. the rest is.. a mess :3

@lacaverneeclairee
wow, I didn't know that! it is very interesting, thanks for sharing!
I think this opens up even more possibilities for my #Nantegah. yes, they have sexual monomorphism, but their reproductive parts still differ. so, instead of morphing/developing into male or female they could (in very rare cases) morph into both.. which is hermaphroditism(?) š¤ thats very possible with their specific setup. well, "possible" in terms of fictional worlds. sry for #braindump
the almost full body study of my #Nantegah.
this species has a male/female system, but their physiology is quite unusual compared to humans. the m/f bodies do not differ from each other. even the reproductive parts are the same (or at least what is externally visible). more interestingly, their sex is not defined - not even physically - when they hatch, but when they come of age. in other words, they transform into m or f (or sometimes not at all).

another #sketch of my #Nantegah :)
for those of you who were curious last time.. this is the upper part of a naked Nan-Te'gah. I'll probably post the full drawing later, with CW.

@Ladee
thx :)
thatās tricky to explain without going into (probably unnecessary) details about their reproductive system x)
but I'll try: on the #Nantegahās planet it's quite common for inhabitants to change during certain phases of life. & I mean physically change (like metamorphosis, but also not). in case of the Nan-Teāgah, the femaleās body merges a 4-ācomponentā system to only 1 component. this makes laying the egg relatively easy, but the preparation is not.
@Ladee
.. since then, it has been customary that the partner takes intensive care of her during this time. a pregnant female without a partner was likely to die. therefore the ancient #Nantegah created strong connections & stayed together for life. this behavior has become so ingrained that it remains until today. couples rarely separate & it is forbidden by law to leave a pregnant female, bc in their world it still implies sentencing her to death.
@Ladee
nowadays, the #Nantegah use medical treatments during this time and provide the female with an environment where they can properly relax and prepare.
in the early days, when the Nan-Te'gah still lived in the wild, pregnancy and especially the adaption phase were very dangerous for the females..
@Ladee
and you are right with your assumption - it's the females laying the eggs :) #Nantegah have indeed a male/female system.
the process of birth is quite tough though, bc the body of the female has to adapt strongly during the last couple of "weeks". during this time, they are often in pain and they can move barely. it's a bit like a human pregnancy, but more extreme, as their bodies physically change some parts to make the birth (=laying the egg) possible.
@Ladee
to your questions: before I (try to) define the size of an egg, I should give you the average height of a #Nantegah :D bc they are quite tall. they can get up to ~3 meters. so, an egg is quite huge too. I imagine them a bit bigger than the egg of an ostrich, but they are elongated, looking a bit like a medicine capsule. the color is always white with a matt structure. touching them would feel like touching the average white painted wall.
@Ladee
now, one might think that cities in the sky would be perfect for flying. but no, they're not. at that altitude, going outside requires a pressure suit. or aircraft :) flying naturally is only possible on other planets, space stations or behind the great city walls.
I hope I was able to give you a little insight into the life of #Nantegah :3
@Ladee
yep, they lay eggs :) always one at a time. their ancestors built nests, but today they have technical aids. it's common to get an incubator that keeps the egg warm and can be watched at any time.
as for the "trees" - they used to have something similar. or well, they still have them, but their planet has undergone an environmental change that makes living on the surface almost impossible. #Nantegah live in huge floating cities in what humans call the stratosphere.
@Ladee
oh yes, basically they can fly. it's a bit like humans and running. most of us can run - for a few minutes, some can do more, some less. but it's physically exhausting. so, almost every #Nantegah is able to glide through the air a bit. others can fly for a while, but only a few can perform complex maneuvers. in fact, those wings aren't easy to control. they are separate "bones" with skin in between, aligning them properly takes some practice.
I kinda managed to make this SFW š but maybe these rules don't even apply when certain anatomy deviates far enough.. which definitely applies to #Nantegah, and this is probably too much information right now. (sryy)
anyway, I like how this one turned out! I even added my "logo" in full glory. (yeah, I changed it again, bc I liked the old shapes better, but I kept the part with the name).

happy-face-compilation part 3 ~
this time, it's a [#Nantegah] - they combine facial expressions and positioning those "ear-like" appendages to convey emotions. since most of their face is kinda stiff (even the non-white parts), this expression is pretty much the maximum of what's possible. nuances are conveyed with ears anyway. 2 down, 2 up & back, the small ones relaxed = happy āŗļø
I want to experiment with that some more at some point..
