I'm not too sure that everyone understands the gravity of the situation in #hawkesbay. Unison says that there are approx 46,000 homes still without power, including all of Napier. 4hr queues for rationed food, no communications, many still missing, livelihoods destroyed. Supplies being delivered to local communities.Supermarkets are open with generators.

A special edition of Hawke's Bay Today, including official information, will be distributed at supermarkets, dairies, petrol stations, & other businesses.

Te Awa Estate #Napier - Evacuate

Due to rising flood waters, HB CDEM are requesting residents in Te Awa Estate that have not already evacuated to do so now.

This covers Kenny Drive north to
Hurunui Drive.

Please stay with friends and family where possible.

Alternatively, the Rodney Green Events Centre is the Napier Civil Defence Centre.

#Hastings & #Napier drinking water supplies remain operational but with the community asked to restrict their use to reduce the impact on the wastewater network.

#Eskdale Valley has been particularly hard hit with extensive damage. In addition to evacuation orders and self-evacuations, a number of rescues have been undertaken by emergency services.

HB Civil Defence has requested support from NEMA, with the scale of damage to beyond the capacity of the region to manage.

The #Waipawa and #Tukituki Rivers have topped their banks & there is a high probability of the stop bank failing with continued rainfall. The town water supply has failed due to flooding & the community are relying on their emergency supplies.

#Hastings & #Napier: around 16,000 people are without power & it could be days or weeks before power is returned.

The Ngaruroro River overtopped its banks, resulting in the evacuation of Ōmahu.

Reduce water use URGENTLY:

#Hastings & #Napier residents are asked to reduce water use as much as possible as the storm has inundated the waste water network.

Water should be used for drinking & personal washing only.
Do not use dishwashers or washing machines & avoid showering if possible.

The issue is causing toilets to back up. Teams are across the district working to keep the network as clear as possible.
