Another reason why we need in-person conferences: the kind of shared mental environment in which new patterns of knowing can emerge... I have been delighted to respond to e-mail messages from old friends who heard my zoomed paper at the #NarrativeConference last week, but at the same time I lack the thought-buzz I would have gained from all the new people I now did not get to hang out with.
