A Thousand Ships by
This is the as told from the perspectives of the women.

Haynes mines , , , , and for the women who circle the edges of the story, plotting, prophesying, waiting, grieving. Most memorable among them are the inconsolable, far-seeing , the acerbic , and , the muse who insists that this war be told her way.

This is not a one should listen to in public. While shopping downtown today, I kept laughing out loud at this irreverent account of 's .

Happily there's an entire podcast series of Stands up for the Classics. I shall be downloading more!

Instagram - Claire on Instagram: "Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes [AD - PR PRODUCT] Synopsis Medusa is the sole mortal in a family of gods. Growing up with her Gorgon sisters, she begins to realize that she is the only one who experiences change, the only one who can be hurt. And her mortal lifespan gives her an urgency that her family will never know.
When the sea god Poseidon commits an unforgivable act in the temple of Athene, the goddess takes her revenge where she can – and Medusa is changed forever. Writhing snakes replace her hair, and her gaze now turns any living creature to stone. The power cannot be controlled: Medusa can look at nothing without destroying it. She is condemned to a life of shadows and darkness. Until Perseus embarks upon a quest to fetch the head of a Gorgon . . My Thoughts I read this last month with the lovely @mrs_hs_favourite_books and it was a great choice for a buddy read. Stone Blind is a feminist retelling of the famous Greek myth of Medusa. The writing is rich and lyrical, it is evident just how much research and knowledge Haynes has about greek myths. It was refreshing to read from Medusa’s and other women’s point of view. Like most of the original myths, the women do not have much of a voice but this book rightfully gives them one. Haynes very cleverly makes you question, what makes a monster? You also hear from some of the men’s perspectives too who are linked to Medusa’s fate. What I loved about the story is that you experience how Medusa feels to be a mortal amongst a family of gods. She has feelings and can get injured and scared. Her helplessness was just so touching to read about and the love her sisters felt for her who tried their best to protect her. However, I do wish that her side of the story was explored further as a lot of the other characters in the story seemed to get more of the spotlight. I felt Medusa never really got enough time for the reader to witness her experiences, especially when she turned into ‘a monster’. Stone Blind is a passionate and powerful retelling that breathes new life into the tale of Medusa. By the end you will realise who the monsters really were. Thanks @bookbreakuk @panmacmillan for my copy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

I finally got around to reading the powerful feminist retelling , based on the famous myth

is such a fantastic storyteller. She makes you think who really was the monster in this famous myth. Highly recommend!

I did try to post my photo of the book but this is still glitchy as hell on here!
