Happy #NativeAmericanHeritageDay!
Here in the PNW, we are lucky to be surrounded by so much incredible indigenous #art.
This deerskin drum was made for my mom, who worked many years for the Suquamish people. She reunited families separated by the racist residential schools. She was gifted this drum and a beautiful quilt made by tribal elders when she retired.
Eagle and salmon depictions are common symbols in PNW indigenous art.

It's #NativeAmericanHeritageDay! Take time to reflect + honor those who have cherished + inhabited what some now see as the US.

Prior to European invasion, many Indigenous nations venerated Two-Spirit people, as they often held sacred roles in healing, spiritual, and ceremonial traditions in their communities.

National Native American Heritage Day on the day after Thanksgiving honors Native Americans across the nation. The day celebrates the vibrant cultures, traditions, and heritages while recognizing Native Americans' many contributions.

It's #NativeAmericanHeritageDay so I want to draw attention the US Government's role in the destruction of the Gayogo̱hoĢ:nǫⷠ(Cayuga) community in so-called Upstate New York.
This issue has developed over two decades, and the US Government (Bureau of Indian Affairs) is involved in an violation of #IndigenousSovereignty by actively erasing the role of clan mothers in Gayogo̱hoĢ:nǫⷠgovernance.
Pls read, boost & some noise about this because a decision is coming up...

Itās #NativeAmericanHeritageDay and a great time to learn about the native lands you inhabit if youāve never done so.
This is a fascinating resource: https://native-land.ca/
I am not NA but grew up deep on a reservationāso deep I had to learn the local tribeās language to go to school. Most families lacked in-door plumbingāa different world.
The reservation is not without its challenges but it and itās people are beautifulāoffering a culture wholly unlike the rest of America. The people have survived some of our worst atrocitiesātheyāre unbelievably resilient, yet still overlooked all too often. So much more needs to be done.

DYK that today is #NativeAmericanHeritageDay? Lupus is more common in Native Americans than other ethnic groups and may occur in some tribes nearly 10x as often as among White persons.
Join us in celebrating the strength and resiliency of Native Americans today and every day!
Today (Friday) is Native American Heritage Day. With that I give to you this really interesting read on Thanksgiving from the perspective of a Native American. Honoring indigenous Americans is whatās most important, and remembering the atrocities against them (even those still happening) rather than allowing them to disappear into unspoken history. Today, POI is recognizing #NativeAmericanHeritageDay.
There are over 574 federally recognized tribes in the U.S. Today is an opportunity for all of us to recognize and spread awareness about the cultures, traditions and histories of the first people of this nation.
Good morning/afternoon/evening!
Letās not forget that today for Indigenous people, is a day of remembrance and mourning.
Practice gratefulness all year and you wonāt have to romanticize the invasion, devastation, and genocide perpetrated against our Native American ancestors.
Take a moment to honor them, and if you can, celebrate with us Native American Heritage Day which is tomorrow.
