Preparing parents for preterm delivery using smartphone based videos - a great and simple idea and now there is data supporting it too!

Smartphone-Based Video Antenatal Preterm Birth Education: The Preemie Prep for Parents RCT. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapediatrics/fullarticle/2807911
Latest from my academic desk, pop-based study (whole of Sweden, 3.1M individuals born 1987-2016) about “Severity of preterm birth and the risk of pulmonary hypertension in childhood”
Short version: the more preterm at birth, the higher the risk of pulmonary hypertension, but absolute risks were very low. And almost all affected were diagnosed before 2y of age (important message for follow up clinics)

I'm been trying to reduce time on social media for the past couple of month while getting my 1st year PhD progression/confirmation/upgrade/whatever you want to call it report written and now it's done! Turned into a mini-thesis so apologies to those marking it 😂🙈 Included some of the results from my systematic review but now need to analyse and write up for all the other outcomes. Patience please, I'm slow with statistics! #HIE #Feeding #NeoEBM

Cool epi-paper based on national register data in the Nordics.
Preterm birth and fetal growth deviations (LGA and SGA) adds some risk of atrial fibrillation later in life. As found in a study population of 8M persons over 174M person.years (!)
The hypothesis of "fetal programming" lives!
The negative results from the SafeBoosC-III trial - will this change your practice?
Share your thoughts here in our 99nicu Forums!

The SafeBoosC-III trial is out now in #NEJM with 1600 extremely preterm infants randomized. No differences found with such cerebral monitoring, primary endpoint (death or severe brain injury at 36 weeks). Another machine that goes bing?!

Hello everyone, wanted to let you know that we recently released a report on preterm birth in the Nordic countries.
It's a collaborative effort of five Nordic quality registries and provides insights into neonatal care and benchmarking for our region. As a clinician, I believe it could be helpful for us to review.
I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who worked on this report, particularly Professor Mikael Norman at Karolinska. Thank you all 😊

Just out - the 2022 update of the European Consensus Guidelines on the Management of Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
Highlights:
- Tx of worsening RDS when FiO2>0.3
- LISA preferred method of admin
- Surfactant via LMA can be done in infants >1 kg
New iNO guideline from the Canadian pediatric society. Excellent work
NIRS - no longer the flavor of the day?
The COSGOD trial is now published, no benefit from NIRS monitoring during stabilization/resusc of preterm infants.

From the Dept of Not-rocket Science but Still:
finally our paper is out on the stepwise decision model for initiation of therapeutic hypothermia.
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/apa.16643
Background: our national guideline in Sweden tells that after fulfillment of short-term indicators (Apgar ≥5 at 10’, resusc ≥10 min and/or umbilical cord acidosis), an infant is selected for hypothermia *if* HIE 2-3 or seizures develop within 6 hours.
