I saw this last week but didn't realise it was something I'm unfamiliar with. It looks rather like Knapweed, but it's actually Meadow Thistle. Some classic bog plants from yesterday's dragonfly-hunting trip to the #NewForest. Lousewort, Saw-wort, Lesser Bladderwort and Heath Milkwort. The bladderwort was great to finally see up close - normally it's just a distant yellow flower inaccessible in a bog. This was a #WildflowerHour lifer for me in the #NewForest yesterday - Pale Butterwort. And not just that species, but an unusual white form instead of the usual pale lilac. In the local woods there are some steps to nowhere, under the rhododendrons.

They used to be steps down from an old manor (“Purlieu House”) which was pulled down in the 1970s to build lots of housing on its land.
All that remains are these steps, the duck pond and a small fishing lake.
The old driveway is now a footpath locals use as a shortcut to the supermarket

Had a bit of a surprise on Sunday, sitting in a friend's garden at the edge of the #NewForest, enjoying a very hot, sunny afternoon .....and this flew passed, landed in a tree and hung there, upside down for a few minutes before flying off again, obviously a #Bat, but which kind....I'm tentatively thinking #GreaterHorseshoeBat 🤔
