Possibly still the same smell.

For this #SilentSunday... An image taken earlier this week of a place where my friends and I had #Beltaine/#MayDay rituals years ago. I'm not sure if #ThomasMorton had ever visited #Newbury, but if he had visited #Quascacunquen / #OldTownHill, I'm sure he would have wanted to erect a Maypole there. Now under the stewardship of the Trustees of Reservations, there is a circle of 12 large rocks around a tree -- and evidence that even today, folks are still having rituals atop this sacred spot!

Unearthed this Royal County of #Berkshire Official Guide from 1991 on what is, coincidentally, the 25th anniversary of the County Council's demise. I can't see much online about the guide, so I'll scan and PDF it over the weekend and add it to the #InternetArchive so you can all share in the 1990s nostalgia!

Just a few miles away in #Thatcham there were a number put in the stocks as late as 1852 including one Berkshire Blake. Another one of my #oldpostcards of #Newbury. This is the old Grammar School / St Bartholomews School from c.1926. School is centuries old, but this building was opened in 1885 and closed, moving to a new site in 2011. #history

Continuing the mills theme here is a c.1920 #oldpostcard from my #oldpostcards collection of the south mill, what everyone calls Ham Mill today, as seen from the Kennet and Avon Canal.
