X hat anscheinend #nitter wieder einmal erfolgreich ausgesperrt. Mal schauen, ob es dem freien Dienst ohne Tracking wieder gelingen wird, die Sperre zu umgehen.

Einstweilen funktionieren als Alternative #instalker und #twstalker. (Ich hoffe, die sind vertrauenswürdig.)

My way of following #Twitter accounts is to use a RSS reader. #Nitter (there are many instances to choose from) proxies Twitter and you can get the rss feed by adding /rss to the Nitter Url of your target accounts. Just copy these into your RSS reader.

You can assemble as many feeds as you want and display them as you wish. Ad & algorithm free. Better still it's read only so you won't be tempted to respond.

Your search engine of choice is your friend.

As you may guess, the death of #Nitter means that nitter.platypush.tech is down for good too.

Not only, but also all the Twitter->Mastodon forwarding bots I developed are now gone, as they leveraged Nitter's RSS feeds to get new content.

It's quite sad because, for how much I hate the way Twitter is being run, there are still some very interesting accounts that are only there, and I'll no longer be able to read their content on the Fediverse.

On the other hand, I also feel like the situation is much less dramatic now than it would have been if Twitter had shut down all their interfaces with the outside world one year ago. With one bad decision after the other, more and more of the accounts that I followed from Twitter have now moved to the Fediverse (or at least they have an official mirror). From Quanta Magazine, to the Economist, to the MIT.

The more Twitter assumes that it can get away with anything because it's unreplaceable, the more likely it is to be replaced.

Looks like #Nitter didn't survive the latest #Twitter changes. The way followed a few interesting accounts there (Twitter->Nitter->RSS) no longer works. I guess it's over completely now.

But there is information I need from good and reliable sources that is, unfortunately, only available from Twitter at this time. If there is a way to access it without downsides then #Nitter is a good option for me. But it's a free choice and I respect yours.

Just to add you can use any #Nitter instance to follow Twitter accounts etc by RSS without actually having to soil your device with ads, algorithms and Elon's latest fantasy.

Trouble is RSS feeds will only be read by devoted techies. Less than 1% of any audience so why should any site owner bother? Thankfully some CMS developers like WordPress make it happen plus #Nitter does it for #Twitter making it really easy to extract the best of Twitter without troubling the algorithm/data collectors.

Tonight's #nitter update fixes bug that showed all users as verified.

Cuz let's be realistic : lots of very relevant people are still there, and will probably remain there until the fedi is able (or willing?) to give them the same exposure 🤷

And let's be honest: some of you miss it very much, and maybe it's a way to transition less painfully. And be sure #nitter will preserve your anti-elon ethics !
