As a behavioural psychologist, l observe what humans do, their actions, more than what they say - l perceive that there is a discrepancy between what humanity, on average, subjectively believes it is, and what it objectively is.
No surprise, humans tend to focus more on what they believe are their good characteristics, rather than their not so good characteristics. Which can cause learning problems. A person can't learn from their mistakes if they self deny they made a mistake.
In fact, very often those "good" characteristics are often more of a sense of sustaining social status & pride (social desirability bias). And the self importance of defeating, feeling better than, more superior to, the opposition (tribalism).
Think about this - why do many human reject & deny that their animals? Do they believe their something better? (Many talk as if they do) Something more superior than animals? Is that belief of superiority objectively real? If not, that belief would be narcissism. And that narcissism would cause humans to exploit, manipulate & abuse the nonhuman animals. The comparably helpless (e.g., caged) agriculturally farmed animals, that many humans believe they are superior than (that's exactly how many perceive, according to what they do & say [& eat].
If parents & carers in general, on average, dearly, really, truly, loved their children, wouldn't they be very concerned that their traffic pollution harmed their own children's health? (Children, general from lower income families, living in more air polluted environments, develop more asthma, etc). For some "odd" reason, this medical evidence doesn't seem to be on most adults minds. Cleaning up the air is often not on many adults "to do list". It's as if they want to deny it. Evidently, many adults care for their air polluting cars.
What about human caused climate change? Plastic pollution? Wildlife extinction? Or wars?
Of course, there is good in the world. But, as a thought experiment, if a Good God did judge humanity, how many humans would be judged as sincere? How many would pass the " goodness" test? Would many adults (grown ups) be judged as greedy & or jealous ass holes? Assuming that lying to a God would be pointless (all knowing, etc), how many humans could honestly say they deserved to be one of the saints?
Or, how many humans that were more saintly, had been repressed by the sociopaths into doubting their better nature? (That injustice, would truly anger a Good, a just, God). Abusers are not only cruel, they're also manipulative liars (no paradise for them then! In our thought experiment). Maybe the Good God would forgive sociopaths? (once they had repented & weren't sociopaths - assuming that's possible)
There are good, truly deserving people - but how many? Capitalism often rewards the corrupt. Money certainly isn't the sign of goodness (it's the measure of success in capitalism) . The rich won't inherit the Earth because their too busy polluting it. The monetary agenda doesn't sustain the forests (quite the opposite).
If l were like some people, too many people, l'd pray that there isn't a punitive God. A heaven or hell. Even if there isn't, being a sociopath must be a type of hell. And narcissists have serious envy issues.
So, what the fuck is wrong with too many people? Why isn't kindness in their "hearts"? Bad, abusive patenting? Bad schooling with angry shouting teachers? Greedy agendas? More interested in beating the competition? Keeping up their social image? Chasing "likes" on their social media echo chambers?
My toots often are critical of human flaws, why? The sincere people aren't the problem. I'm a solution seeker. I want answers to, for example, mitigate human caused climate change. I want to live in a culture that rewards kindness not cruelty. I want justice & civilised, grown up people (is that asking to much?)
How do we get there? The answer is obvious, change the behaviours, the temperaments, the attitudes & opinions of many humans. Change humanity. Change adults, many of whom, are essentially, the characters they will now be for the rest of their lives (No pressure then).
It has been said that human culture changes at the pace of the birth-death lifecycle. Aged people with their more static perceptions, old habits, 'pet' theories & stale politics, die, & are replaced by the next generation (that's generally what happens). Whilst the younger generation will have acquired many of the previous generations social 'baggage' (nurturing), they will also have learnt some new 'tricks' (on average - the statistical population 'bell curve').
In the context of human caused climate change, it has never been so important that the 'up & coming' generation don't make the same mistakes as their elders. And yet, (on average), the elders are filling the younger gens heads full of the same cronyism capitalism bullshit. (E.g., advertising gimmickry brainwash & greenwash)
Bad habits don't have to die hard. However, narcissists, by definition, delude themselves that their superior. Insecurely attached narcissism can't tolerate accurate criticism. Securely attached narcissism believes it's 'Gods' gift to everything (the irony). This means narcissists don't recognise, therefore learn from their faults. They have a habit of not perceiving their mistakes as that would 'bust' their egos.
The Planet's ecosystems have been, are being degraded, polluted, by humans (their activities, their "likes"). Humans are the cause of a 6th mass extinction event.
That's a hell of a lot of problems that need mitigating. Quick fix, stop consuming a drug that makes humans more deluded (alcohol). Try something different (Psilocybin & or cannabis Micro dose first). Bullocks to the 'old school' alcohol drinkers. If alcohol was the solution? Why so many planetary scale fuck ups. Alcohol reduces cognitive functioning. The "joy" of escaping reality (delusion).
I'm deadly serious. Adults need some mind altering alternatives, or humanity is fucked ( this does not apply to under 18's whose brains, well, are less 'hard wired')
Having solutions is frustrating when the, for example, meat eaters, can't accept the obvious facts - believing they know better. Evidently, killing animals, more objective cruelty, isn't behaviourally better. But, that's #narcissism for ya (deluded subjective egos).
