In 1937, just before WWII, Japanese music industry saw surge in piano sales: this fad was partly created by the popularity of one German film ABSCHIEDSWALZER (1934). Actually, its French language version LA CHANSON DE L’ADIEU (1934) was the big box office hit in 1935. The future director, Nobuhiko Obayashi fell in love with this film ... and learned some tricks of filmmaking.
