#13 Normal Gossip (podcast)

I've subscribed to Defector from day 1 because it's the sort of company I want to support. Several years ago they were thinking about branching out into podcasts and they recorded five pilot episodes for subscribers to listen to and provide feedback on. One of them was a pilot episode for Normal Gossip.

I friggin loved it. I listened to the episode and immediately found my roommate so that I could tell her about the drama. I left great feedback. And then I waited. And waited. From time to time I would wistfully remember that episode and wish I could listen to it again.

I'm so glad Defector greenlit Normal Gossip. When I'm on a walk with my mom and we run out of other things to talk about I'll tell her a Normal Gossip story--the one about the knitting club, or the sketchy neighbor with all the packages, or the close up magic cult.... It's so fun to get drawn into these relatively low-stakes but also somewhat outrageous stories. I love how the host periodically pauses to ask the guest for their read on the situation, especially when the guest says something I would never have thought of in a million years (like googling your neighbors!!).

(I do still want that pilot episode to get released sometime!)

Good lord, the season 3 finale of the Normal Gossip podcast was a RIDE! I never knew I cared so much about pocket watches.

If you've never listened before, I recommend starting from the first season and saving this riveting story for last because it is so 🔥 🔥 🔥
