Virginia Woolf was born on this day in 1882. To celebrate, I want to pass along a passage from her essay “Mr. Bennett and Mrs. Brown,” where she reminds us of our “duties and responsibilities” as readers and people to recognize and appreciate our rich experiences of others and ourselves, and to demand that novelists speak to this experience.
