Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk is now Europe's largest company in market capitalisation, ahead of French luxury giant LVMH.

This follows the UK launch of Wegovy, a weight loss drug that cuts appetite and cravings. Tens of thousands of people have already signed up to waiting lists for the treatment.

Das passiert aktuell in den USA, denn dort dürfen die Pharma-Firmen den Preis für ihre Medikamente selbst festlegen und auch nach Belieben erhöhen. Noch günstiger, wenn die drei Pharmafirmen den Markt gleich unter sich aufgeteilt haben, dann gibt es auch keine störende Konkurrenz mit günstigeren Preisen.

Da immer mehr Menschen sich ihre Medikamente nicht mehr leisten können, subventioniert der Staat Kalifornien jetzt eine eigene Firma, die lebenswichtiges Insulin und auch andere Medikamente quasi zum Festpreis herstellt.

It pays staff salaries on NHS obesity teams & financed the launch & redesign of services, including giving £206,000 to a health partnership to transform its treatment of obesity.
