Following in the footsteps of Sarah's interview with us, @alittleroad and I got together and reflected a bit more about how @copim has worked to document the variety of Work Packages' activities, and how - guided by COPIM's overall set of values - we've tried to do so in open ways by using #FLOSS tools, platforms, and #open #infrastructure such as @bigbluebutton, @cryptpad, Jitsi, @nextcloud, Zenodo, @zotero, and PubPub.

Good to see the amount of independent bookshops in the UK is at its highest level for a decade. The number of these #bookstores has continued to rise for the seventh consecutive year, reaching a total of 1,072 shops. That's a significant increase from their lowest point of 867 shops back in 2016.
Also good that independent publishers are doing well:
So we can say there is something of a change in who is #publishing and disseminating #books. What we can’t say so much is that there is a change in how they are doing so.

Our colleague @flavoursofopen is gearing up and getting ready for #LIBER23 ... and this is what he'll be bringing along: make sure to be on the lookout for our **Thoth bags** - we only have a limited number of them available, so get yours as soon as possible 😀 🎉
Also, do check in with colleagues at our @copimproject@hcommons.social conference stand (we'll be on the 1st floor, booth #16 😉), for a catch-up on all things #OAbooks, e. g.
Lots to talk about re: @openbookcollect and Opening the Future, with colleagues @ScholTom, and Francesca, and Toby will also be there to talk about our work on making a truly open book metadata ecosystem become reality. ❤️
Work with a friendly, international team to help deliver a more equitable and sustainable future for #OpenAccess #OAbooks publishing.

Our colleague Ross Higman has worked tirelessly to investigate interaction options with various archiving platforms for #OAbooks - a documentation mini-🧵
Their notes (incl. APIs, etc.) have now been published on our ever-growing Thoth Wiki where they hopefully will be useful for other developers seeking to connect to these platforms.
Take, for example, the detailed writeup of how to use the #SWORD protocol, which is useful to connect to #DSpace and #EPrints repositories. #openinfra #archiving #opensource

Some personal news: I'm really excited to share that as of today, and after having served @copim as Project Manager for more than three years, I'm now joining @Thoth_metadata as COO (apparently that is a thing?) & Product Manager 👋
In the coming months and years, we'll be working to bring fully open, #CC0-licensed #metadata for #OAbooks to more publishers, including those involved with the lovely folks over at Open Book Collective (@openbookcollect@twitter.com, who will also soon be joining the #fediverse, I hear), while also expanding our range of open #metadata output formats, further developing the Thoth Archiving Network (#archiving & #preservation), and working to further improve #accessibility and #bibliodiversity aspects of Thoth via our participation in the Open Book Futures project (aka. our next phase of COPIM) ... it's definitely not going to be boring! 😄

This has been a really fun conversation, thanks so much to Sarah for hosting us on the PubPub Community Spotlight!
Interested in hearing us talk about @copim 's work to imagine a community-led open ecosystem for #OAbooks, Scaling Small, metadata and @Thoth_metadata , the Open Book Collective, and COPIM's exciting next phase of Open Book Futures?

😍 at long last, the Experimental Publishing Compendium has been unveilled just earlier today as part of the WP6 panel of @copim 's end-of-project conference!
The Compendium is such a fantastic resource that does not want to only be a database of sorts ... More than that, and building on the research conducted by the Experimental Publishing group (aka. COPIM's WP6) comprising @openreflections, @simonxix, @hardyjuls@twitter.com, @garyhall, @Rebekka_Kie, the Compendium seeks to highlight the rhizomatic connections that exist between tools and platforms, practices such as collaborative writing, forking, annotating, remixing, etc., and numerous examples to showcase the interplay between practices and tools / platforms and outputs in the complex and ongoing adventure that experimental publishing can be #OAbooks #ScalingSmall #OpenInfra
