What with all the #ogl related interest in Anything Else, I'm reminded actual play podcasts and streams are a good way to get a taste of different #ttrpg systems.
Here's an summary I did earlier, for #kiwiRPG, of examples from Aotearoa. https://www.kiwirpg.com/shows/kiwi-roleplay-beyond-dd/
I'm curious to see how Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro square this circle by moving from the Open #Gaming License to a Creative Commons license. The original OGL predated the CC licensing system and this article discusses the perpetual/revocable issue of the OGL. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2023/01/dd-maker-still-wants-to-revoke-earlier-versions-of-open-gaming-license/ #DnD #OGL #WOTC #Copyight #Licensing #CreativeCommons #Law #IntellectualProperty

I played a lot of Champions as a kid, and I really enjoyed that. Is the Hero System alive anywhere?
What are the biggest non- #OGL (so not #Pathfinder )systems people are using for #ttrpgs ?
I played a bunch in the ‘80s, but those systems seem to be all defunct.
Lotta proud graduates of the Arguing on the Internet School of Law posting in the fediverse today.
Jep. Now, I am finally done with #CriticalRole.
Their announcement regarding the #DND #OGL kerfuffle is a masterpiece of a Corpo-non-statement. It likely only exists because they couldn't hide forever.
Now, the fandom will keel over and let itself be milked for another few years at least, but these aren't just a few friends anymore whose DND game became famous more by accident. They are now a corporation seeking profit.
And as always, that destroys the very soul of a thing.
🎙️ In which I weigh in on the #OGL aftermath and all things #OpenDnD in a new timely episode of 💧 **Aqualith AM**! Also two other short topics: one local to me, the other seeking online participation!

So basically the whole #OGL freakout boils down to WotC trying a power move (badly), people losing their goddamn minds about it, WotC backpedalling so far they fall off a cliff, and LegalEagle stepping in amongst the carnage and saying "uh guys? Most of this stuff can't be copyrighted in the first place"?
Sounds about right. This is the internet, after all.
@chadarius yeah, I've been saying that for decades. Realistically, the only thing you can't use without the license are WOtC IP - like Vecna, Spelljammer, etc. Game system is...fair game. I honestly feel that, while yes it is probably a money grab of a kind but not where people are whingeing, it has more to do with "creators" abusing the OGL to make things like NFTs and the fact that the movie and TV show in the works "technically" could be produced without giving a dime to WOtC due to the #OGL.
The Guardian have pick up the #dnd #OGL story in the UK. It has indeed been a tough and confusing week for #ttrpg fans

I don't play DnD myself, but I've seen some mention about a certain gizmodo article, and and one of my favourite podcasts debunked some of the claims in it. Give it a listen: https://openargs.com/oa675-gizmodos-critical-hit-piece-on-wizards-of-the-coast/
Usual business. #OGL
