This keeps happening with the #offgrid setup… i guess hellfire could solve the winter heating crisis but i’m not sure I want to go on Santa’s naughty list just yet!

#Solar #Offgrid #radio update: New lifepo4 bank is now in to replace the agm setup. This doubles the capacity at 105aH and gives the radio stations 3 hours runtime before switching back to grid backup or generator.

At the moment I’m using the BMS to balance the batteries (passive, resistor loads which burn off excess per cell) ahead of first load test. Once that’s done I’ll tidy up the cable management and maybe some insulation to keep the battery temperature up.

#OffGrid stuff:

I run the radio stations off solar panels and batteries with a grid fallback. Currently on AGM batteries but it’s amazing how quickly they fall out of balance with each other (i suspect one might have an issue).

I’m charging them separately today to rebalance, both batteries individually and then a top up in parallel before reintroducing them to the bank again. Weather is poor so i’m not missing out on much solar today.
