Not sure what to make of this:

is considering 'zonal pricing' which would seen prices differing on the basis of proximity (or otherwise to generation) - essentially abandoning universal service provision for energy & introducing a price incentive to live near(er) locations were power is produced...

This might also include pricing by time-period (the old night-storage heater model) 'encouraging' people to recharge tech or run non-time-sensitive energy-hungry processes over-night.

From Martin Lewis (sl.edited from the other place):

Be warned - the prices quoted on many news shows are now FALSELY cheaper.

has just redefined its annual 'typical use' definition from now onwards as lower usage (likely as people are cutting back) - and as that's what is often quoted, it sounds like prices have dropped more than they have as it's not like-for-like.

... to help clear up any confusion, here's the new figures under both old and new 'typical use' definitions.

If you want to understand how firms are raking in profits despite 's efforts to cap prices, then you need to know that the really profitable energy firms have split their businesses into domestic supply (the focus of Ofgem's efforts) and electricity generation, which is where the firms are making the bug profits;

yup their selling themselves the energy & in what in the would be called transfer pricing, they are shifting profits to where its is more lightly regulated!

Millions of households will remain in fuel poverty for the foreseeable future, despite the latest price cap reduction.
The system is broken with no real reform in sight from any of the main political parties.

With the Tories in power, the only thing you can guarantee is that they will make themselves and their rich mates richer.

A pathetic response by to the issue of forced installation of pre-payment meters.

They appear to regulate the customers, not the energy companies. Given that Ofgem have made a series of expensive (for energy customers) gaffes over the last few years, it's clearly time for the head of Ofgem to resign.

Now why doesn't the party actually do something constructive for once and go all out to support this

instead of putting all their hot air into the anti bill.
This is the second bill that will break treaties already signed - and they accuse environmental protestors of being lawless?

What does this mean?

Well first, the standing charge was increased for everybody in the UK.

The unit rate was lowered.

The standing charge was increased in line with recommendation from .

The unit rate for gas was lowered.

Without the government intervention prices would have more than trebled:

Ofgem Oct 2021: 0.04 £ per kWh
Ofgem Oct 2022: 0.145 £ per kWh.

The cap on the cap capped this increase to only double to 0.1£

No trebling but more than doubling. Now..

Gordon Brown has urged the head of energy regulator Ofgem to quit over the scandal that has seen hundreds of thousands of vulnerable Britons forced to switch to costly prepayment meters.

In an extraordinarily outspoken attack, the former prime minister says Jonathan Brearley should “consider his position” and accuses him of failing “dismally” to protect customers, some of whom have been pushed into the hands of loan sharks.
