The term #Ohlone resulted in 1853 from a misspelling of Oljon, a tribe within #RamaytushLand along the Pacific. In 1769, more than 2,000 Ohlone lived on the Peninsula in what is today’s #SanMateoCounty. They hunted, fished, tended the land and developed complex trade and cultural relationships, according to the county’s website.

I also have a #BikePacking trip I did that is on the blogger platform but is really hard to see or understand. I've been looking for some way to combine maps, words, photos and video in a way that makes sense.

Just watched this powerful 2022 film about a recent excavation of a pre-contact #Ohlone site near the Sunol Water Temple, done with full participation by local Ohlone tribe members. Linked from someone in my #Quaker meeting. Highly recommended!

It's not just condescending... but ignorant, and so many other things. Maybe even racist, and biased...

After all, California and the west coast was originally #NativeAmerican, such as our local #Ohlone people, then part of the #SpanishEmpire, and then #Mexico.

#SanJose was the first capital within the U.S. Union, as well as where the founding #California #ConstitutionalConvention was held. The previous capital was in Monterey.

Awhile ago, I wrote this story on #Ohlone burial grounds near my home. Then I ported it over to #StoryMaps to try the platform.
