@ThisSideOfThePond @dangillmor @ArrestJK Not sure which side of the pond you’re on, but #Oki/ #Okidata is the only printer maker I could not find any dirt on, but they’ve pulled out of the US market. So in the US, they’re all evil. But I do not mean to detract from #HP. HP is the single most evil of all printer makers. HP is not only anti-consumer & anti-environment, they also help Israel oppress Palestinians.

In the early days, the heads would rest directly on the surface of the platter when it was not spinning..

Oki Data made a 64k single-platter 10k RPM with fixed heads

They had to be shipped in a 4'x4' box with 6 giant foam bumpers between the inner box and the outer box

They would "crash" if they received more than a couple gees of force in any axis

They were used in AT&T phone switches and Navy flight simulators as "fast RAM" !

After the IBM-PC came out, we got over-extended trying to sell clone PCs like the Compaq, Okidata, HP etc.

Had to file Chapter 7 😿

Worked @ Okidata in Goleta CA as Electronic Tech fixing 300MB 17" rack-mount hard drives.

Moved on into the Defense Contractor industry... SDC on Vandenburg AFB working on Control Data Cyber mainframes that recorded missile launch telemetry data in real-time.

After some extensive research into the ethics of printer makers, the only manufacturer I didn’t find any significant dirt on was #Oki (aka #Okidata). Sad to see that they’ve shrunk & excluded N.America: https://www.oki.com/us/printing/
