Working on ideas for #MahoningStateUniversity I had the idea that I wanted to do small blog post sized vignettes in an #UrbanFantasy or #Horror style, like #OldGodsOfAppalachia but urban rather than rural, as I grew up in a big city and know that. I also didn't want the stories to be from a police or unofficial enforcer of norms, because that is overdone in urban fantasy.

#TheMagnusArchives led me to my answer, that I could have some private group looking into werid stuff. Like weird academics.

Just got an account set up on #Miraheze to set up a private wiki for a new story idea I have.

Taking inspiration from #OldGodsOfAppalachia and #TheMagnusArchive to make an urban fantasy/horror thing featuring an academic department funded through creative grant writing which investigates the weird stories of Northeast Ohio. Filing the serial numbers off a local college and calling it #MahoningStateUniversity

The Old Gods of Appalachia's primary time frame is the 1920s and 30's. Archive.org has old Sears and Roebucks catalogs online!

The game is like the podcast however, and can be set in the late 1800's. I know of one home game that is set in 1972.

So, in the southeast Appalachia we have the Hellbender Salamander, which can reach 2 feet long. It's the third largest salamander species in the world (with legs, some legless ones get longer).
Japan and China have the 2 largest species of Salamanders.
In old gods of Appalachia, salamanders belong to the Green. They eat evil where it has puddled and pooled on its way up from the depths. You get a bit of luck by catching one.

I'm adapting a Call of Cthulhu module for the 1st about a group of siblings called home to find their daddy. He just up and went off to his first wife, missing for over 40 years in the woods.

Folk have been asking for favourite #podcasts and I figure it's a good time to list the ones I love.
Obvs there's #themagnusarchives - probably the first podcast that really got me into them, but there's so much more than that out there. For audio drama, you can't go past #KaneandFeels
and #OldGodsofAppalachia to scratch the horror itch after Magnus. For quirky sci fi and improv humour #StellarFirma is amazing and #Wolf359 minus the improv is surprisingly full of feels. For actual plays, #CampaignSkyjacks (and the previous star wars campaign although it ended unfortunately abruptly) is amazing, as is #RustyQuillGaming. For talking heads, always #Mbmbam - for talking heads with Australian Horror Writers, #LetTheCatIn. And finally if you want amazing history recaps there's #Revolutions.
