Decided to see "Babylon" at the old Park Theatre, built in 1940, which seemed like the right venue for a tale of #OldHollywood. And I'm neck-deep in Old #Hollywood, with my spreadsheet now sitting at 885 old movie titles I've watched since 2019, from silents through the sixties. #Vancouver

#Babylon was engrossing, visually and musically spectacular, more Roman bacchanalia than California, with outstanding performances, but in the end rang a bit hollow and internally conflicted for me. ★★★☆☆

Norma Desmond is an optimist and frankly so am I.

How into old movies am I? Since late 2019 I've kept a spreadsheet of #OldMovies (meaning, made before I was born) I've watched. I'm now on title #875 in ~3 years.

I had no idea it would go this far when I started, it was just a fun foray which worked well during lockdown. Now I'm so deep I can never come back. I have a particular affinity for 1940s film noir, but I enjoy all genres & eras. It started with silent films of Mary Pickford & Buster Keaton. What a journey it's been. #OldHollywood
