Well, it’s either going to be INFERNO (1980) or THE GHOST IN THE INVISIBLE BIKINI (1966) this evening. Though why pick just one? #HorrorMovies #Movies #OldMovies #SpookySeason

Last night I watched the 1934 version of Cleopatra with Claudette Colbert. Wow! Much better (and sexier) than the E. Taylor version 30 years later.
BTW, I saw Claudette Colbert in a play with Rex Harrison in the mid 1980's.
I started and stopped the THE GHOST WALKS (1934) over the course of several nights before making it to the end: my work-weary brain couldn't keep track of all the reversals, reveals, and red herrings. It's the Platonic ideal of Old Dark House movies, with all the requisite elements (secret passageways, portraits with moving eyes, thunderclaps and sudden shrieks). Johnny Arthur is aces as an extremely high-strung theatrical type. #1930s #Movies #Mystery #OldDarkHouse #OldMovies

It's a Friday afternoon (thankfully) so it's time for me to take stock of all the creaky old motion pictures I watched this week (or attempted to). MURDER BY TELEVISION (1935) runs a whopping 54 minutes but, unfortunately, feels longer. A fairly staid murder mystery, it's given a shot of interest by the use of an experimental transcontinental TV broadcast as plot device. Apart from Bela Lugosi, the superannuated cast are less than thrilling. He looks great in this, though, a bit surprising given how he fared as the 1930s ground ahead into the 1940s. #1930s #BelaLugosi #Movies #OldMovies

Watching THE PSYCHOTRONIC MAN (1980) and finding it more fascinating as a documentary about late-1970s working class Chicagoans (and the milieu they occupied) than as the horror/SF flick it was meant to be. Where’s my drink? #CultMovies #OldMovies #Movies

Managed to finally see ZOMBIES OF MORA TAU (1957) after many, many years of knowing it only as a (memorable) title. I'm a little sad to report that it's awkwardly-staged, overripe and overlit, and dreary as the drawing room where most of the movie takes place. The titular zombies are kind of cool-looking (but I found myself questioning why their clothing hadn't disintegrated after 60 years spent underwater, guarding their scuttled ship and its lost treasure). "No MORA, please!" #1950s #Movies #OldMovies #Zombies

Watched STRANGERS OF THE EVENING (1932) last night, a fairly cornball affair featuring switched corpses, wisecracking cops, pencil-thin mustaches, nervous junior morticians, and at least one case of comedy amnesia. Zazu Pitts manages to liven things up for the few fleeting moments she's onscreen. Also known as THE HIDDEN CORPSE (better title). #1930s #Movies #OldMovies #PreCode #ZazuPitts

Watching the same film two nights in a row? Maybe I needed a closer look. Tonight I’ll be revisiting TOMORROW AT SEVEN (1933), a closed-room mystery featuring Chester Morris (always fun to watch) wiseacres Frank McHugh and Allen Jenkins, a concerned Vivienne Osborne, and the tyrannical ruler of Planet Mongo himself, Charles “Ming” Middleton. #1930s #Movies #OldMovies

2022? I'm burned out on it and ready for an odd-numbered year for a change. Last night I fell asleep to BOWERY AT MIDNIGHT (1942), a Monogram mystery featuring Lugosi (still looking relatively healthy) in a dual role and the ever-effervescent Wanda McKaye as his lab assistant. As drab as its Bowery "soup kitchen" setting, the show still has random moments of grubby charm. #BelaLugosi #Movies #OldMovies

Last night I mostly-watched DISCARDED LOVERS (1932), which is to say I drifted off for about 10 minutes toward the end and came back to consciousness before its conclusion. Square and stagy, it’s still notable for having a young Jason Robards, Sr. and Robert Frazer of WHITE ZOMBIE (1932) among the cast. #1930s #Movies #OldMovies
