#today was a glorious morning so I walked through #OldnallEnd to #Berkswell. On the way I passed through what in 1839 was called Ram Field. I think its new residents might have something to say about that name!

I #blogged! "Putting on the local history goggles...", a reflection on visiting the site of some lost cottages in our local park.

Glorious, cold, misty morning #today on the Greenway in #OldnallEnd between #BalsallCommon and #BurtonGreen. The trees on the horizon form the boundary between fields that in 1839 were called Middle Close and Far Close, named for their position in relation to a farmstead now long gone.

Inspired by this week's walks, #today I went to the #library and picked up all these fab #books about #Berkswell. I read them all when I first moved here, but now I've learned more about our #LocalHistory it's like meeting old friends. Libraries ROCK.

It's #OnePlaceWednesday and I have #blogged again! Join me following the 1841 #census enumerator on the first part of his journey around #OldnallEnd:

#Today my #MorningWalk took me out into the #fields of #OldnallEnd where the low #WinterSun even made the mud look lovely. This is Wall Field Meadow as per the 1839 #TitheMap

And I blogged! It's been a long LONG time since I made a #blog post, but I want to share what I find about the people and places of #OldnallEnd and this will hopefully keep me writing. The first post is a reflection on how I got here (with fervent thanks to the #OnePlaceStudies community!)

Yay, first data for my #OldnallEnd #OnePlaceStudy (pretty bonus #FieldPhoto below!). Phase 1 focuses on the 1839 #TitheApportionment. Here's what I found: 69 dwellings (9 headed by women, 17 owner-occupied, 52 tenanted). V local: 30 householders born in #Berkswell, 28 in #Warwickshire, 3 out of county. V agricultural: 19 farmers, 16 ag labs, 5 shoemakers, 5 labs, 2 carpenters, 1 each of rakemaker, hosier, linen weaver, maltster, baker, shopkeeper #OnePlaceStudies #LocalHistory #FamilyHistory

Visited #berkswell #churchyard this week to look for folk from my #OnePlaceStudy of #OldnallEnd & found the Watson family (not the famous tennis-playing ones!). They farmed at what is now the Brickmakers Arms (terrible photo on the left) during the first half of the C19. Mary Watson married a wrong un called Abraham Lancaster & her bachelor brothers all looked out for her, leaving her everything in their wills, but making sure it was free of Abraham’s “intermeddling” #LocalHistory #FamilyHistory

Having a #OnePlaceStudy Sunday, working through phase 1 of the study, which is a quick & dirty #FamilyHistory of each person who appears on the 1839 Tithe Apportionment of #OldnallEnd #Berkswell #Warwickshire. This gorgeous 'house, shop & garden' belonged to Joseph Arch, a farmer who died in 1840, leaving the premises to his wife Elizabeth and daughter Ann. The (partly hidden) front window bottom right was the village butchers' shop for many years! #OnePlaceStudies #LocalHistory

It’s been a long week and I had to postpone this week’s look at my #OnePlaceStudy until I’d finished a work deadline today, but now it’s DONE so to celebrate here is a “little croft, called Burnt Close because the cottage thereon has burnt down, at Oldnall End” (as mentioned in a will from 1686 - no trace of the cottage now, at least from here, which is as close as I could get!). #LocalHistory #OnePlaceStudies #Berkswell #OldnallEnd #Warwickshire #Fields #FieldPhoto

Per the 1839 tithe map, this is #OldnallEnd Piece and I am so intrigued to find out if the field or the hamlet got its name first #OnePlaceStudy #OnePlaceStudies #LocalHistory #Warwickshire #FieldPhoto

It’s #OnePlaceWednesday and I’m 2 weeks (ok, 8 years) into a #OnePlaceStudy of #OldnallEnd (now in #Berkswell and #BalsallCommon ) in #Warwickshire. For my first mini project, I’ve been identifying all the plots in the 1839 #TitheMap and entering them on this Google Maps layer, with notes & (from today) photos. It’s a bit rough, but it’s starting to look like something! Any advice more than welcome :)

Bright and frosty morning walk through the #fields of my #OnePlaceStudy #OldnallEnd - here are the Lingey Fields, whose name I learned today is probably associated with ling or #heather (I also learned that the Urban Dictionary offers quite another meaning DO NOT GOOGLE IT) #LocalHistory #MorningWalk
