It deems #vibration is recurring problem in #nuclear new build. In #Olkiluoto3 it was the pressurizer surge line, and now also #Vogtle3 discovers vibration in cooling system piping. Earlier, EPR in Taishan reported damage in fuel stacks due to vibration.
With modern CFD tools one would think it should not be difficult to identify and mitigate such issues in design phase.

With two of the four feedwater impellers still damaged, #Olkiluoto3 will resume commissioning tests after xmas. Two pumps are fixed with spare impellers, one runs with cracked impeller and one is in reserve.
Appears desperate to deliver at least a fraction of planned power output for this heating season.
Last May testing was interrupted due to foreign objects in turbine. With such track record, running a nuclear plant with cracked impellers sounds a bit adventurous.

Finnish newspaper @hsfi reports on #Wartsila study that suggests that #WindPower coupled with #Hydrogen and Wärtsilä engines can deliver firm electricity supply of equal capacity but cheaper than the 1600MW #nuclear plant #Olkiluoto3.
However, many commentators are not delighted by this good news but seem outraged, claiming the study must be unreliable.

With all 4 feedwater pumps damaged, and still no info on the cause, unsurprising announcement that there will be no more electricity from the #Olkiluoto3 #nuclear plant before christmas at earliest, and commercial operation pushed back to at least end of February.
Replacing the pumps is the easy part, but fixing the root cause could take a long time.

Nuclear plants can't run without all feedwater pumps in order. Seeing this impeller raises doubts whether #Olkiluoto3 will produce any electricity this year.

The #Olkiluoto3 nuclear plant is still awaiting revised schedule to continue commissioning. Cracks in feedwater pumps were discovered a few weeks ago.
In addition to fixing the pumps, important to find the cause for damage.
