While camped at Toleak Point I was sitting quietly in the shade looking out at the beach and this deer walked down the camp trail toward me. At this point (maybe 8-10 feet away from me) it realized I was a human and decided to go around me on the beach, then it popped back up on the trail and continued on after checking me out for a second.

Here is another cool thing found on that Hoh Head overland trail. I think this shelf-fungus is a Red-belted Polypore. All that drippy sap-like fluid along the front edge makes me think this is one happy fungus.

Heading North from the Hoh river you have to round the diamond rock headlands which requires a low tide. This is arduous during incoming tides — it’s more than a mile of rock scrambling. The reward is Jefferson Cove pictured here, which curves around to Hoh Head.

This is the very starting point of the Hoh Rainforest where the Hoh river is about to meet the Pacific Ocean. Over the last few days we hiked from here (Oil City) up to 3rd Beach — 17 miles along the South Coast Route in the Olympic Wilderness. More fun pictures to come.

Bioluminescence and moonlight at Shi Shi Beach, Olympic Peninsula, Washington last August. It's super trippy to see! I had only two nights there, but I want to go back and spend more time, hopefully catching the bioluminescence when it's covering a bigger area and is more active.

Later that evening it clouded up and a thunderstorm rolled in off the coast. I got a bunch of shots, but exposing for the bioluminescence and intensely bright lightning was nearly impossible to get right. I hiked out at dawn just as the storms hit the beach. It was a long night, but super fun.

This is an image I'll be offering as a print once I have some test prints made to see how it looks.

Smoke on Lake Crescent

As I made a trip up to the Olympic Peninsula I hadn't watched or listened to any news. If I had I might have found out that a few days prior a fire broke out in BC and the smoke was drifting south.
I turned in from the coast towards Port Angeles and was greeted with this smoke blanketed Lake Crescent. Sol Duc River

After visiting the Olympic Peninsula in 2018 during a period when the Northwest was slammed with smoke from a fire, I was thrilled to visit this spring and hike the beautiful trail to Sol Duc Falls. This image here was captured at a smaller stream below Sol Duc Falls. I just loved how lush and green this area is and wanted to capture the beauty of this hike. Creek At Sol Duc Falls

Getting the chance to finally visit Olympic National Park was a fantastic experience. This trail is a pretty easy out and back.
This little creek was running down alongside the trail to the main falls. I just found it so beautiful that I had to set up and capture a variety of shots. This is my favorite. Sol Duc Falls

Olympic National Park seems to be a magical place where greens are brighter, greener, richer, fuller, and just plain beautiful.
