An #Introduction redux for new people! May you find what you're looking for here. I have! Hcommons.social rocks.
Firstly, I'm a Postdoc at UCC #English and #DigitalHumanities. I work on @PortsPastPres an #EU regional development project funded by the #Ireland #Wales Cooperation Programme. We're @PortsPastPres on the ailing #Birdsite.
I particularly work on our #Omeka/#Curatescape heritage stories: https://portspastpresent.eu/items/browse and our #App Port Places: https://portspastpresent.eu/exhibits/show/about-ppp/port-places. The project is ending this month, and I'll have more projects and news about what I'm doing next to come.
My main areas of interest are #EnvironmentalHumanities, #PublicHumanities, #DigitalHumanities and #OA. My :hc: profile is: https://hcommons.org/members/scrivenersmith/, where you can read more about my publications.
I'm an occasional #TTRPG writer. You can see what I've written here: https://jameslouissmith.com/tours/show/4. A couple more things forthcoming.

Keeping it classic on #DayofDH2023 by working on #omeka stuff. Seeing a project I started 3+ years ago finally coming to fruition!
🧵 3/ I got to assist a researcher from #History w/ their database. A recurring issue we face at the University Library and the Digital Scholarship Center is research databases that have lost technical and developer support. In this case, the data were retrieved from the original database but not the data model, at least not in an easy-to-reconstruct way. There are plans to make the data available via an #Omeka instance here at the library.
🧵 3/4 After that, a couple of researchers dropped by. In the coming weeks, there will be sessions about the database & visualisation tool #NodeGoat (link: https://nodegoat.net/) and #Omeka (link: https://www.omeka.net/).
I also got a visit from a research advisor: we (1/2)

I also got a visit from a research advisor: we will work together on best practices for research data management for historians, archaeologists and conservators and freshen up the #RDM knowledge of the other advisors! Great to see so much enthusiasm!
Long shot but: Has anyone collected data in Airtable and then ingested into Omeka S?
We will be experimenting with this soonish and I am curious what scripts look like if other people have made them. Debating going from Airtable API -> CSV -> Omeka S import or trying to post directly to the Omeka S API item by item
So #DigitalHumanities and #Omeka people. If I wanted to export and convert e.g. an xml or JSON of an item from Classic into a human readable e.g. .odt doc for archiving, what should I do?
I basically want to combine something that's easy for users to copy and paste from with no tabular data knowledge with a perma.cc version of each item in a repository, coupled with a single .csv with all the Dublin core metadata in it for those wishing to import (and a howto) @dh
And, don’t forget that the #Omeka S 4.0 release candidate is also available: https://forum.omeka.org/t/omeka-classic-3-1-release/16344 We really appreciate the feedback we’ve gotten so far and we always welcome more at the forums or via github.
Just in time for your holiday break tinkering, #Omeka Classic 3.1 is available for download: https://forum.omeka.org/t/omeka-classic-3-1-release/16344 This version includes support for PHP 8.1, 8.2, moves the light gallery feature to the core, and has many, many accessibility improvements.

I never managed to post an #introduction, so here goes.
I’m Tom Scheinfeldt. I’m a faculty member at the University of Connecticut, where I teach history of technology, digital culture, design thinking, and digital humanities. I also direct an interdisciplinary research incubator called Greenhouse Studios. I’ve worked on lots of things through the years both at @uconn and at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, including #Sourcery, #THATCamp, and #Omeka.
I blog at https://foundhistory.org. I like #swimming and #skiing and I have a wife and two sons. We live in West Hartford.
Loving Mastodon so far!
(BTW: If you followed me in the last week or so, you may want to do so again. A bunch of followers were erased due to some technical issues on my server.)
