Also in the news this week - William Williams has (allegedly) been hitting on Mansel Bolton's girl Emma Thorne (he treated her to a ride on the hobby-horses, can you imagine?), and it all ended in fisticuffs in the road. William came off worst, was unconscious for several hours and "narrowly escaped being killed". William was escorting the Jennings sisters home from taking tea at Wing Cottage at the time. Anyway Mansel's in gaol for a month now. #OnePlaceStudies
John Windmill, pork butcher, sued Moses Thorne of Wingrave over the loss of a sow. Also giving evidence: George Randall (a labourer who worked for Mr Windmill) and Henry Windmill (Mr Windmill’s son). #1873OPS #OnePlaceStudies
Per Rev. Ouvry in this Leighton Buzzard Observer news item 👀 “When Mr Ouvry came to Wing in 1850, he found [the Churchwardens accounts 1527-1725] without its covers and in a very dilapidated condition in an old chest in the church. He asked the churchwardens to have it restored, and they sent it to the British Museum bookbinder, who refixed the covers, smoothed, repaired, and [??] the leaves, and made it the sound good volume which it now appears”. #OnePlaceStudies #bookbinding
Had a lovely email from a fellow OPSer about my #OnePlaceStudies website today(he’s wondering if/how to get his research online). I also gave him the link to my very brief, done-on-the-cheap, #OneStreetStudy website that I set up once upon a time at wordpress.com, as that’s a good way to see if Wordpress is going to be for you.

William Monk has been found guilty of causing his son Jabez to take poison “with intent to injure, aggrieve or annoy him” (by putting poison in the sugar) and sentenced to five years. Prior to his arrest he told Jabez that he didn’t want him dead, he was just bothered by his son’s opposition to the proposal of hiring a housekeeper. #1873OPS #OnePlaceStudies

Wing’s getting a new wood! https://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/23393616.bucks-council-work-forestry-england-new-woodland-area-wing/ (a map showing the precise location would be nice). #OnePlaceStudies
The true history of the New Inn pub at Long Buckby Wharf, not the mythical and very wrong version peddled by the pub itself.

Yippee, I #blogged! #Today I've been writing about our local pub, the Brickmaker's Arms in #Berkswell, and the family who lived there in 1839 and for most of the century before that (long before it was a pub!). Would they have been thrilled or horrified to know what happened to their family home after they left?

#OnThisDay 10 Feb 1889, Francis (Frank) Leeson Norris was baptised at Long Buckby. Born at the Wharf, he grew up in Long Buckby before moving to Rugby.
Frank worked on the railway as a brakesman. He married Sarah Hinks in 1912 & in 1914 he enlisted with the 3rd Battalion, Coldstream Guards.
Frank was killed in action 26 Aug 1914, probably at the Battle of Le Cateau. His body was not identified until 1920 when he was reburied in a CWGC cemetery.

#today was a glorious morning so I walked through #OldnallEnd to #Berkswell. On the way I passed through what in 1839 was called Ram Field. I think its new residents might have something to say about that name!

A boost for this for #OnePlaceWednesday - esp as January's #OnePlaceStudies prompt is #OnePlaceArchives.
Have you used our project database in your #OnePlaceStudy? Has it helped? If so, how?
Thanks in advance!
