I've used #OpenAPS every day for the past 8 years. It works! Thousands of people have used it and similar open source AID systems over the years.
Recently, the #OpenAPS algorithm I designed - by teaching someone how I manage #diabetes manually and realizing we could 'teach' a computer the same rules - was also proven safe and effective in a randomized control trial (RCT) in both children and adults.
Results from the RCT were published in #NEJM: https://bit.ly/3AWqlqf
For those who aren't familiar with #OpenAPS:
I (we) made an open source automated insulin delivery system (now known as AID more so than APS, but same thing) to feed data from my insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) into an algorithm so it could recommend and enact changes to insulin delivery automatically.
Traditionally, insulin pumps and CGMs don't do this - they didn't talk to each other!
We did this on our own years before AID was available commercially.
It’s been 8 full years of using open source automated insulin delivery (a closed loop).
Wow. Time really flies!
So thankful to all the folks who have been a part of the #OpenAPS community over the years!

Hashtags: I saw early calls for us to gather here by using the same hashtags we use on the bad platform. Not sure what’s happening now? These are some of our commonly used hashtags: #T1D, #DOC, #type1Diabetes, #WeAreNotWaiting, #AndroidAPS, #OpenAPS, #insulin4all There is also #T2D and #type2Diabetes and a Great Britain version of #DOC at #gbDOC

I created the first healthcare hashtag chat (#hcsm) back in the day and moderated that for almost a decade.
I developed the first open source automated insulin delivery (AID) system (#OpenAPS).
I'm currently an independent grant-funded health researcher, working on #diabetes projects and also facilitating and supporting other patient-led research efforts.
I also write a blog (DIYPS.org) and books (ArtificialPancreasBook.com plus several kids health books).
