Working on integrating #OpenAlex with @SkepticalScience weekly research listing, starting with scan API reference, ponder, iterate. Dot-dot-dot.

OpenAlex is going to be a both a problem solver and a problem creator, because it opens a horizon of possibilities.

It's such shame that days don't become longer in positive correlation with abounding options.

(OpenAlex is a cousin or sibling of #Unpaywall, another model of virtue.)

See the full article for evidence that the invisible journals tend to be from the global south, pub'd in languages other than English, and use a #diamond (no-APC) business model.

It also shows that even high estimates for predatory journals can't account for more than a small fraction of the full range recognized by the larger sources.

NB: The most comprehensive source, OpenAlex, is the only one that could be called #OpenInfrastructure.

EBSCOHost = 17,874
WoS = 24,510
Scopus = 41,957

OpenAlex = 124,073

But all of these are incomplete. The authors use data from Open Journal systems to show that OJS journals omitted from each source.

@hare . #OpenAlex is a superset of both #Crossref and #pubmed. However, I am not sure #Pubmed is really a subset of #Crossref. There are still many journals whose content is indexed in pubmed but whose publishers are not (yet) members of Crossred (i.e. have no Crossref doi). But this is changing

Which database is a superset of which? Is #Crossref a superset of #PubMed? Is #OpenAlex a superset of both? Could I find something in Crossref or PubMed not in OpenAlex?

#OpenAlex now also includes #Wikidata ID for journals as well as APC information from DOAJ.

I counted 4000 of 12157 non-APC journals in DOAJ with a Wikidata ID in OpenAlex

Would you have all of them identified as diamond in Wikidata as well?

Citationgraph bot now running on #Wikidata, cleaning up the mess that caused it to get shut down 15 months ago.

After the cleanup, it will begin importing "cites work" statements from #OpenAlex.

Does anyone have thoughts on dealing with wrongly attributed #ROR IDs?

Looking at #OpenAlex data on publications associated with my institution, there are a bunch of records by authors affiliated with similarly named institutions and I didn't know if there were established methods for flagging that.

@MsPhelps And I wonder whether this would have happened had @carlmalamud not forced their hand by getting the #GeneralIndex available for #OpenAlex!
