Today I...
Got disappointed in modern technology.
Enabled some soldering purchases as a result.
Explained rounding to the kid.
Planned a cake.
Bought some ink for an #Inkscape tutorial; makes sense, right?
Improved and fixed my #OpenSCAD code; procrastination is also time to find mistakes.
Has written an OpenSCAD cycle. It's a marvellously simple language and I'd argue that it would make a good first language for kids. Simple, visual, with printable results, what's not to like?
Woke up before 5am from missile sound and then explosions. Turns out air defense managed to catch them all above my cityโฆ two other cities weren't so lucky.
Spent the day testing my 3d printed templates for mending and my new piece of recording gear, this clamping arm. Incredibly useful! Also cleaned the overlocker after the latest corduroy project, and it was time anyway.
Need to add 1/8 circle markings to the template file, for matching while pinning. More #OpenSCAD ahead ๐ #sewing #filming
That was when I realized I've added only 1 SA and not 2 required. You see, I've added 2x6mm to the circle diameter, but SA is all around, so I had to add it 4 times, or add 2x to the radius instead. That must be why I struggled that much! ๐ฌ
Then I thought it would be useful for others and spent the day learning #OpenSCAD, while doing other instantly interesting stuff on and off. It was a good day, an #ADHD bliss ๐
I'll publish it when I find the energy, making listings is quite boring.
Forgot to link the model (not mine): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1562501
This is an OpenSCAD file, so I've read comments in it, changed a few parameters until it worked for me, and set hole parameters to 0 to get solid handle without a threaded shaft.
Had to make the top fillet really small as it's a true fillet, not a chamfer+ fillet, so it created a steep overhang near the bed. Otherwise it's a really good handle that can handle different applications :)

@gringene Do you follow what's going on over at https://www.youtube.com/@MajorHardware with his fan showdowns?
Oh, and very nice design. As an #OpenSCAD user myself that just looks so nice.
I recently got a PCBite kit and I used it to hold a couple of the Byte display modules together to bridge the edge contacts. I also designed a bracket in #OpenSCAD to hold them together. #electronics #3dprinting

I wrote a new blog article on how I am auto generating #OpenSCAD code in #C++ to debug data structures.

TIL, that #Openscad can be the plotting tool for anything you want!
As an educational project I am implementing all kinds of containers and currently I am working on a KD-Tree.
Since the my brain apparently doesn't like the nearest-Neighbors search to fully comprehend I started of by printing out scad code to properly debug how my tree is being built and what is the final result. (Spoiler, not working yet :P )
The remix is even better, not mine, wish I had thought of it. #3DPrinting #OpenSCAD
My hexagonal grid generator has been getting some love โค๏ธ lately. #OpenSCAD #Printables #3DPrinting https://www.printables.com/model/86604-hexagonal-grid-generator-in-openscad

Alright, now that I have migrated to my home grown instance, it's time for an #introduction!
I hack. I've always been drawn to #programming both to solve problems, and to have fun. More recently, I've gotten deep into #electronics design and repair, which dovetails nicely with #RetroComputing. And because I inherited a 3D printer, I've gotten into #3DPrinting, #3DModeling (#Blender), and #CAD (#FreeCAD, #OpenSCAD). And for no reason whatsoever, I've recently gotten into #FreeBSD. I like it.
Occasionally I do some #art things, mostly #procedural or #generative. Or #PixelArt (I'm not good at it). Or #music (also not good at it). I have been known to #dj (I am OK at it, and I love #house and #techno).
I've found the Fediverse fascinating and challenging. Eager to dive deeper. :)

Now I created my own electrical box, as an amateur electrician I don't get access to ready-made parts. I used IEC 320 C14 plug a couple of connectors I had a box of and 60mm M5 bolts to create it in #openscad. The design is on printables -- https://www.printables.com/model/346100
Daughter wanted a specific thing for a holiday cookie cutter. Got an image scanned, cleaned up and traced in #Inkscape, extruded and combined in #OpenSCAD and a prototype was successful. #3DPrinting FTW
Still takes far too long to extrude and taper an SVG though. Might need to use #FreeCAD?

I made a USB holder for 2x USB buck converter (no idea how the exact model is called , see images) adapter for the front of Bear Upgrade frame.
A very convenient place to mount JANSJร LED USB light and connect Raspberry Pi with Octoprint.

I've been a long time proponent and participants in open source, starting I think back when I added Unicode #fonts support for #POVRay. Got sucked into Multimedia and some #3DModeling and animation #GameArt for one of the earlier large publishers. I stepped up my #OpenSource game by becoming one of the core developers then board members for #Inkscape. Got sidelined a bit, but getting involved again.
For day jobs I' slid into security. I've also picked up #3DPrinting & #OpenSCAD
