I am looking to join up with people who have worked in #advertising #socialengineering because all those techniques are yet to be applied to #climateaction. There’s some #subvertising but all that does is #awareness raising, and we are now well past that phase. It’s about convincing people to #change habits and #organise. If we can convince someone to pick a useless habit, surely we can convince people to pick a useful one! #marketing.

@TheBierFrau 2/2 ...for me when stopped. Having got to the end, clearly physically exhausted, I can just take it, while tugging my forelock, as the thought of having to do this all over again in another shop is too much. Or, and this is what actually happened, I can vociferously object in the loudest terms possible.

@BlogWood I don't know US or FL Labor laws at all, but this is a classic attack on organised Labor. My union faced this back in the 90s: suddenly it became illegal for workers to request OUR money be directed as WE chose.

Our remedy, as always, was to #Organise. Now virtually all our 100K members pay their dues themselves, usually by regular direct debit or card payments. It's still set-and-forget, and the bosses aren't involved.

lastly, I mentioned that my current job is not unionised and the majority of long-haul over-the-road truck drivers lack the benefits of a #Union.

I wanted to add, long-haul yards are notoriously difficult to #Organise due to the structure of the job. organising requires being able to talk to your coworkers. a lot.

the larger/mega, carriers even moreso. there are drivers who see the inside of a terminal maybe once a year. there's no chance to counter the anti-union propaganda. #TruckingLife

The lesson from massive tech layoffs is to join and grow your union to the point where you have an economic weapon of sufficient power to defend your people.
